Would you vote for an atheist for President?
If you agreed with him on other issues? What if the choice were a white atheist Republican who opposed abortion vs. a pro-choice, african-american Christian Dem?

I agree that race should not be a concern but religion is a voluntary choice which dramatically affects one's fundamental belief system. I posed this question because it seems to me that a big part of Huckabee's appeal to many is his fundamentalist background while Romney and Obama seem to have to defend their religious beliefs (or perceived beliefs in the case of Obama).

I think that a lot of people like to say that they would vote for an atheist but many would find another excuse not to vote for him or her. Just like people won't vote for Obama because he is "inexperienced (wink, wink, nudge, nudge)."

Bob: Isn't it also possible that so many in jail claim to be Christian because they have nothing better to do? They are searching for something? There is the old joke, Jesus is in jail because everyone finds him there.

No. Call me closed minded, call me bias, call me as you wish. I can not have any association, nor respect for a descendent of the Klan of Ape.

The declaration of Atheist, by someone shows me a greater mental insight to them and it declares a type of fool. Some one who has no clue to spiritual insights, nor a depth, nor capability to associate on a moral level. Morality is not legislated, it is first written on the heart. It is not stone but it is flesh, and it is resoundingly responisive to the inner soft voice of the Living God. Jesus the Christ.

I don't waste an awful amount of time on unbeliever's mockery.

The skin color is irrevelant. And to be totally honest, I am not labeled Republican nor Democrat. They both can be found as: crooked, self righteous, wrong, liars, thieves, perverts, the list goes on as far as the language I speak has adjectives....

But it is the candidate that has moral conviction and actions that speak for his heart's motives. It is neither a black or white thing, it is a selection for his/her wisdom by my wisdom.

We have a human tendancy to box things in little categories. However, I understand why, because who could take the minutia of great details for any lenght of time incessantly.

But as an American, as a man that leans to the laws of nature being evidences to an obvious Maker, it also gives us insight to the nature of perversion. I don't use any scriptures or mentioning of a god of any sorts when talking about sexual perversion. I use the Darwin himself to conclusively prove unnatural, perverse, conduct.

I could elect a man/woman that was practicing Judaism. For I am for certain that that is a foundation of my belief(s). Judeo-Christo.

I, however, could never elect a m'madean, or even one with a name that sounded m'madean. And I will not apologize to Obama. Because I see the spirit of the antichrist in the m'madeans theology and their terroristic means.

I would not elect Jesse Jackson, or Wiley, or Wrangell,or any black instigator of black pettinesses and chipped fragilities.
I would vote for a man like Martin Luther King, and Alan Keyes, though.

I would not have voted for Jack Kennedy, or any Kennedy. Teddy was too suspiciously involved and took inappropriate actions at a car wreck and drowning, Jack had the knack for infidelity, with a specific chronic case STD. Bobby was at Jack's back, and flocks of bird are of the same wing.

Jack's protege Billy the "I smoke but never inhaled, what the meaning of is is, I never had sex with that Monica Lewinski woman" flim-flam-sham of a man Clinton, I never once called nor will call president, or Mr President....not even for the namesake of the office, I may have had qualms, but if I were in the military under his command I might have served, but with definate resolutions and reservedness.

Nor would I vote for a woman that could or would tolerate such utter nonesenses, offenses, and betrayals from her husband. Merely, I conclude, to promote her political agenda, some say that it was and is between a private husband and wife, and I would be to differ and state it stopped being private when it became public.

No apologies given to you Hillary.

Any person, that supports the right of an underaged female child to have sex, counsel with doctors of blood stained abortion clinics, while under the age to get aspirin without parental consent, then to murder the human growth inside of her, is totally out of the question.

Any person that believes in the taking of a developed/developing fetus, irregardless of what trimester it is, call it what you will, it is human from the initial process of developement, out of the murdering mother's womb and sticks scissors in the knape of the neck, then a vacuum tube sucking out the brains of the murdered child...well, do I have to give my leanings on that obvious answer of mine? I did not think so.

I see America in her death throes. Once a moral nation, now one that is split half and half. And now the Churches in America reflect the immoral majority. Instead of influencing, they let themselves become the influenced.

Their divorce rates mirror, the causes are the same. Infidelity. being the greatest, or just the burn out of their mate due lax attitudes of shacking up and premarital sex, which have a tendancy to lessen the chances of marital survivability. America has three camps, those with a God, and those without a God. And those with a God that act as if there is no God.

She leads the world in abortion, drug abuse, sexual abuse, sexually transmitted diseases, she is the richest nation ever known to civilization, yet the liberties have been exploited. Her constitution misconstrued to hedonistic views then that poison seeping, or, out and out poured out, upon the youth in our schools. Which has the propensity to graduate and promote those in it to and underachieving education. Educated idiots, all thinking and touted as Savants.

We have gangs and gang violence at unheard of levels. Our federal police are eavesdropping without justification. Our airports are asininely sub standardly secured. While our borders are totally in pathetic security dissarray.

The Israelis have a workable system of spotting terrorists, but due to political correctness we are not allowed to use the same proven techniques here in America.

The rights of the constituents have been diminishing. Eroded slowly piecemeal by piecemeal. Politicking is mistaken for statemanship. abominations of what was once considered bad, is considered a right, and good is called evil and evil is touted and flaunted as good. Public schools are havens for hedonism, teachers are having sex with underage kids, political correctness replaces free speech on universities and campuses nationwide. Mental illness is growing at an alarming rate, 17% increase, multiply .17 by 300 million to get the picture of the scope of things.

All laws of behavioral consequences are legislated moralities. We judge and let our youth judge what is acceptable, or moral by Hollywood's standards and fiction.

I have got a greater sense of urgency and higher standards of expectations and concerns than to get bogged down in politicking as the status quo is, I am not unaware of a greater addressings and leadership, than to oppose one on skin color or sex as in male female....I will be bias on sexual perversion though. Barney Frank...forget it. Has not a chance of an ice cube on a summer sidewalk in Chicago. The "Footsie Bathroom Perv up in Idaho" forget it!

Any man that has a desire to take it up the rump, or to give oral slump the chump is not sound enough. They are not grounded in the laws of basic nature, let alone higher callings of morality, not having a mind that can lead on higher decrees than their proven baser things.

Any candidate that has proven himself unfaithful to his wife. Nope....no can do, if you are too selfish and too pleasure minded to betray your wife/husband, that he/she would not put another's well being into proper perspective. Any dilly-dallying...on a mate, not achance again.

Have I given an Idea of Issues? Thanx for the chance to unload....

This may not exactly address your question, but he's some interesting data available on the Bureau of Prisons website.
I forget the exact figures, but it's something like this;
70% of the prisoners in the USA claim to be Christians. This is no real surprise as it is in line with the general population of the country.
Less than 1%, however, claim to be atheist. This is way out of line with the general population, which is said to be 12% atheists.
Studies have been done trying to understand why so few atheist end up in jail. One conclusion is that atheist don't have a higher power to answer to nor get relief for the guilt of their transgressions. As such, they tend to adhere more closely to the rules of mankind.
Given the fact that a person sees the rules of mankind as the highest order, wouldn't that person serve better as the administrator of the rules of mankind?
To answer your question, would I vote for an atheist?
You bet.

edit:
lol
I was going to add that comment about perhaps the atheists in prison found Jesus in prison. That's also a possiblity. But, people I have personally met who don't believe in God are very firmly convinced of non-existence. They seem just as firm in their belief as a Christian follower. It's unlikely a Christian would stop believing in God if sent to prison. I think the same would apply to an atheist.
An atheist is an atheist because they searched their souls for their own truth. I think people who "find Jesus" never spent any time soul searching. I suspect someone who finds Jesus in prison never truly looked before.

I cannot see into the soul of another person, however all people leave a "wake" as they progress through life. How many of us regardless of religious belief can point to something that tells if there is God or not, except through the act of thought on the matter?
I'll vote for anyone that I believe would do the best job, based on what kind of a job they have done all their lives. It's really not that complicated an issue.

First of all I might vote for an atheist if he would stop the halocaust of the unborn and the elderly. Second, what I look for is character, religious beliefs are USUALLY a sign that the person will protect the weak and helpless and defend right over wrong. Why don't you ask Gianna Jesson about being burned alive ina salt saline abortion, she survived one, and is only alive becuase the abortion doctor was not on-site when she was born and a kind nurse felt sorry for her and called an ambulance. Ask Gianna if it should have been up to her mother and the abortionist, whether she suffered that horrible death. Gianna feels that she had rights too.

In the vast majority of these questions race and religion seem to be the primary concern. Which in turns ads fuel to the fire on racism and turns up the already heated differences in religious beliefs.

This is a age old tactic use to keep the general public in ignorance of the issues that are to be faced. Those who are not aware of the real issues that governments have and the attempts they are making to settle them are the ones that throw racism and religion into the fore front, which in turn brings the process of doing what governments are supposed to do to a screeching halt.

Thank you

Actually I don't give a rat's behind what religion the President believes in or if the President has any religion. Some in the past claimed affiliation with a religion but rarely practiced it. The job is secular and as long as they can serve the secular needs of the country that is all that concerns me.

What scares me is that TOO much emphasis is put on religion in the presidency. We don't need a theocracy.

I'll admit that if all other things were equal, I'd probably vote for the non-atheist over the atheist.

However, if the atheist was the candidate who most closely mirrored what I believe, then I would give him my vote.

Absolutely! What do I care? We are trying to find a great leader, not a good preacher.

I'd never vote for anyone who opposed all forms of abortion. That's barbaric and cruel.
