My husband and I are pregnant with our 3rd child, we are not sure of the gender yte but have already decided on a boy's name. We really like the name Ellamae Alyssabeth, but I have been getting negative feedback about how country it is or something about the beverly hillbillies. We love the name and would like a variety of opinions or suggestions. Thanks! :)

I thought the spelling was interesting and yes, unique. The tossing about 4 names may be difficult but that's what I like about it. The name Ellamae will stay but a middle name I like besides Alyssabeth hasn't come up yet!

I actually do like Alyssabeth, but I am not a fan of Ellamae as a first name. If you do use it, use it as a middle name. Or just go with Ella. Ella Alyssabeth is very pretty.

If you really love the name, then I am sure it will suit your child. However, my opinion is that it would be prettier if you named her Firstname: Ella Middlename: Mae and then called her Ellamae as a nickname but let her have the more elegant and professional Ella for school and when she grows up.

Ellamae is a pretty, unique name. Very feminine and classically beautiful. Alyssabeth is a little complicated, the names together are a mouthful. Ellamae is technically two names combined, so is Alyssabeth - so really you have 4 names going on. Shorten the middle name to a one syllable name or something less complicated and you've got yourself a winner.

I don't honestly think Ellamae Alyssabeth would be good for a boy's name at all.... or have you already decided on a boy's name and are searching for a girl's name... I'm sorry, the question is alsmot supportive of Ellamae as a boy's name by the way it sounds... and yes, some people do that. As far as the name, it's common to get comments about the BEverly Hillbillies because the movie made those names well known. I don't think it's a good name for a child in these times, because of the types of names that are used now, it does sound a bit "hick". It's all upto you, but people see others alot by how they are named, not their personalities. My sister in law's name is Henrietta and before I knew her or even met her, I thought that was a hickish name... and guess what... my brother in law's (my husband's brother's) name is Jed... the man she married... and they are HICK to the bone! They are a good match I guess, but it just goes to show you that people do evaluate a person based on their name... unfortunate as it is... my bro and sis in law are very good people, and I like them, but I can't help but think of the Clampetts. Pick a good beautiful strong name for your daughter should you have one. I named my daughter Aralyn. It's a beautiful yet unique name without going off the deepend into a name that's hard to pronounce and spell.... I do feel for the teachers in the generation of my kids. Some names are so rediculously a mouth ful just because parents want they're kids to be "unique"... but to each their own. Congrats on your baby!!! Best of luck to you and your son or daughter to be!

wwweeellll...

the other day i was babysitting my three year old neighbors. they were watching Clifford, (you know, that show with the big red dog) and there was this character named
EMILY ELIZABETH. thats really similar to Ellamae Alyssabeth. The only other problem i see with that name is that it seems like 2 different name ideas shoved into the name of one child.

it sounds like it should be Ella Mae or Alyssa Beth, but all four were squashed to be the name, the long long name, the child must go the rest of their life with.

How about...

Ella Mae
Ella Rae
Alyssa Beth
Alyssa Rae
Alyssa Mae
Ella-Mae Elizabeth

It strikes me as way too long--like you're giving her four names all squashed together. And the spelling of Alyssabeth--blech. Just pick--Elisabeth or Alyssa.

But why not just Ella as the first name (which I think is really pretty) and Mae as the middle name?

If you go with this, she'll constantly be having to spell her name for people, tell them that it's not pronounced El-am-mee, and have people asking her if she's from Georgia (maybe you're in Georgia, though).

Sorry for the bad reaction. But the two of you have to pick the name you love, of course. Maybe when you meet her (if it's a girl), you'll know for sure if it's her name.

I agree that the whole name is a mouthful. I would re-think the middle name, maybe just Alyssa or Elizabeth. I have an unusual name and finally have learned to like it, however it is a traditional gaelic name (it's not my yahoo nickname). I was named after a cousin in Scotland so the name comes from our family history. Names made up by parents or unusual spellings of common names often are what other people find unappealing and cheesy. So toning the name down a bit might make it easier on you and your child. Regardless, no one should ever make a negative comment to your face about it unless you ask their honest opinion. BTW, congratulations on your baby!

I absolutely LOVE it. So pretty! And if you like it who cares what N E 1 else thinks? That's what every one said when I wanted to name my boy Taedon Jakob they said how odd it was but I didn't care Taedon Jakob it is! It's pretty original too, who else in her class will have the beautiful name of Ellamae Alyssabeth? Nobody but her! I hated being the 3rd Andrea in my class ; P
Hope I helped, I think you should stick with it!

That name sounds very feminine for a boy...and the spellling hurts my eyes (sorry if that's too honest). Maybe you could save the name in case you have a little girl in the future...and spell it more like Ella Mae Elizabeth? That's a beautiful name for a little girl.

I would suggest dropping the Mae altogether. Any names with "Mae" or "Lou" attached are kinda "rednecky" sounding. My first name is Alyssa so I naturally like the name; however, I would suggest "Ella Elisabeth." I think it sounds nice, looks nice and it's not a tongue twister.
