I'm not a mother (I'm 24) and I live with a 13yo girl (passed parents) who became my best friend as soon as we met each other.I know I will make suffer everyone who ever tries to hurt her (emotionally or physically). She is my best friend, we share everything, talk about everything, help and support each other, discuss problems. We have never yelled at each other and we've never 'punished' each-other (I know I'm supposed to punish her but if she decides to ignore me it would be the worst punishment for me) and we settle the rules together (she usually takes really good decisions). We snuggle (cuddle) any time. She is a lot more for me than a sister or a best friend. I can't explain it quite well but she is the best person I know, the best friend (support) I have and if anyone ever tries to hurt her, I will protect her or I'll revenge for her.Do all parents feel the same with their children? Or is your contact with them only yelling, criticizing and punishing?
