According to my research (coz i have many psychology books) people do the wrong things despite of the consequences because there is a PAYOFF to what they will do.
For instance a teenager will smoke pot or do some stupid move because the payoff will be that his "friends" will give him acceptance. Get the point??? The trick is write down the bad habit or decision and put the pros and cons in black and white( the benefit and disadvantages) and down play the payoff......

Also, according to my research rejection is the #1 fear of all people of all races (psychologically speaking that is).

It's a form of self-destructiveness and is a sickness. It could be an addiction. There is some kind of pleasure derived from doing the wrong thing and until the consequence overpowers that pleasure, the wrong behavior or bad choices will continue.

Freudian psychology asserts there is the Ethos (life instinct) and Pathos (death instinct) in all of us. And daily living is all about a square-off between these two instincts at play, pulling us in different directions. Korean philosophy with the Ying and the Yang swirling about one another is similar...that you must know the dark to appreciate the light, and the light to understand the dark.

Sometimes self-loathing is the culprit, or guilt...or shame. Only when the person is willing to truly confront what is blocking them will they be able to stop their self-destructive choices and move ahead with the appropriate behavior.

I don't believe "love" is the correct word. People who do things despite of the consequences are lacking good morals and have no conscience. They are doing things in this manner because they have no respect for themselves or for others. It's not that they love doing them, they just aren't bright enough to do anything else.

The wrong thing gives them a payback they're looking for much better or quicker than the right thing ever has. That has to be the only reason why they do it....

When left to their own devices, it is amazing how many people make the wrong choices in life. No one seems to give enough consideration or thought to anything....they just jump in !!

Depends on who you talk to but first, they think they won't get caught. Second, they have no regard or respect for themselves or others and third, and most importantly, they have to feed they id -that place in the brain that gives us pleasure.

If they know its wrong its adriniline.

Its possible they dont consider what they're doing wrong. In their minds they might be doing right.

Right and wrong are a matter of perspective.

people generally dont believe that anything is going to happen to them. so though they know whats going to happen they still want to see if it wiill really happen to them. it starts as a child. we call them daring or have no fear. but its just denial that anything bad is going to happen to them.
