The defense is abysmal, as usual, and the once-potent offense now sputters. The running game is laughable, the pass protection is nonexistent. Who can solve this? Who can bring the nastiness back to the defense? Who can bring the power running game back to its heyday? Who can take a mediocre quarterback and smack the opposing D-line in the face enough that said quarterback is palatable (e.g. Neil O'Donnell, Kordell Stewart, Tommy Maddox)? There is a coach, a tough coach, a projectile salivating coach who built a reputation on and won a Superbowl making a team do exactly what Notre Dame cannot - play defense, run the ball, and protect the quarterback. This coach is also unemployed and has had a nice long rest from the spotlight. Were I a decision-maker for Notre Dame athletics, the prospect would be tempting. What do you think?
