i just noticed the song "if i could be jessie's girl" sounds weird being sung by a man. i really don't know much about the song or the artist, but is the artist a woman who happens to sound like a guy?

Jessie is also a guy's name...the man singing is wishing he was going out with his friend Jessie's girl.

Jessie's Girl By Rick Springfield

Jessie is a friend,
Yeah, I know he's been
A good friend of mine
But lately something's changed
That ain't hard to define
Jessie's got himself a girl
And I want to make her mine
And she's watching him with those eyes
And she's lovin' him with that body,
I just know it
Yeah 'n' he's holding her in his arms late,
Late at night

You know, I wish that I had Jessie's girl,
I wish that I had Jessie's girl
Where can I find a woman like that
I play along with the charade,
there doesn't seem to be a reason to change
You know, I feel so dirty
When they start talking cute
I wanna tell her that I love her,
But the point is probably moot
'Cos she's watching him with those eyes
And she's lovin' him with that body,
I just know it
And he's holding her in his arms late, late at night

Like Jessie's girl,
I wish that I had Jessie's girl
Where can I find a woman,
Where can I find a woman like that
And I'm lookin' in the mirror all the time,
Wondering what she don't see in me
I've been funny,
I've been cool with the lines
Ain't that the way
Love supposed to be
Tell me, where can I find a woman like that

[Solo]

You know, I wish that I had Jessie's girl,
I wish that I had Jessie's girl
I want Jessie's girl,
Where can I find a woman like that, like
Jessie's girl,
I wish that I had Jessie's girl,
I want,
I want Jessie's girl

This is like. those mis-understood song lyrics, right? The only song I ever heard was 'I wish that I had Jessie's girl', a song about coveting his best Friends girlfriend.

It was actually called Jesse's Girl. Jesse is also a boys name as in Jesse James. The song was by Rick Springfield.

Because Jesse is a male name. It's Rick Springfield and he is singing about wanting his male friend, Jesse's girlfriend. It it was Jessie's as a female, and she had a girlfriend then they'd be lesbians. Doesn't make sense that way.

It's Rick Springfied who wrote and recorded the song. At that time, he was primarily known as a soap actor who appeared on "General Hospital". The interesting thing is that the woman mentioned in the song didn't even know the song was about her.
