In 1865, Jules Verne proposed sending men to the Moon by firing a space capsule from a 220 m long cannon with final speed of 10.97 km/s. What would have been the unrealistically large acceleration experienced by the space travelers during their launch? (A human can stand an acceleration of 15g for a short time.)

---------- m/s2

I am unsure how to solve this problem. I know that acceleration is change in velocity over change in time. I started out by converting the km per sec to meter per second and got 10970 m/s but dont know where to go from here. Am I starting the right way? Can someone please help? Thanks!

As the MLB playoffs approach, I want to know why you think Tim McCarver should be banned from the broadcast booth for the playoffs. OR if you like Tim McCarver, why you think Tim McCarver should not be banned.

I personally believe that his comments make no sence and his timing is terrible. Either he is stating something totally obvious, or he's spouting off some obscure bizare statistic. And regardless of his comments, he refuses to shut up when the ball is in play.

Please Tim, take a leave of absence for the month of October!

so you start with a number if it is even you divide by 2. If it is odd you times it by 3 and add 1. therefore making it even. you are always supposed to end up getting to 1 in the end. here is an example

It was my first day of college and someone shouted it out on the bus on the way home (it was 2-3pm UK time). I was a bit confused because being a sheltered Brit I'd only ever heard of the twin towers at Wembley Stadium! But I got home and my mum was glued to the news and I was completely in shock for the rest of the day, and I followed the news religiously after that - still do, to this day. Love hearing about the stories of hope that come out of it.

I've been reading a lot of things on the internet today about 9/11. A lot of anger and pain of course, all completely understandable. Ceremonies everywhere with bands playing, flags flying and prayers of many sorts.

Here in rural East Texas we did the same today.

But something else happened here over the last few years that I ask you to reflect on.

Although this area is overwhelming Christian and leans towards the Fundamentalist Baptist variety of Christianity we have small Muslim and Jewish communities.

Anwar Khalifi, an immigrant from Egypt has a prosperous homebuilding business and serves as Iman of the Muslim community. Rabbi Neal Katz moved here in 2003 to take up the leadership of the local Jewish community.

And so it came to pass that Rabbi Katz went looking for a home to buy and met Iman Khalifi. He didn't wind up buying a home but the two began meeting for lunch on a regular basis to talk about ways to bring their congregations together.
