When it comes to temptation, the biggies are fortune, fame, power, and pleasure. By resisting each, out in the open, we cultivate character down inside. So keep your eyes open and your shield handy. The battle is on right now."
This was in my daily Zondervan I receive and I just thought I'd share as a reminder to all of us who want to have good character and integrity.
The integrity of a person is determined by what they do when no one is looking (except always remember God is always looking and you can't fool Him)

I have heard athiest many times use the "Santa Clause" argument. You can't disprove or prove Santa Clause's existense in the same way you can't disprove or prove God's existense. Here is the problem with that argument. It is not WRONG to assume that Santa Clause exists. Even more so , It is actually logically functional to assume that he does. If someone told you there is a box somewhere in the room that you have never seen and they wanted you to guess what was in the box, it would be virtually impossible for you to know what was in the box. You have never experienced this box with your physical senses. You don't know what size it is. It could be as big as a house or as small as a shoe box. The point is you have no tangible or intangible evidence. You are "data blind". Any guess you would make would be as vaild as another. Whether you guessed a whale or a mouse both would still be equally valid. The only factor that could change this is if you gained "data sight" by having evidence.

hello I am wondering how much school counselors make during the year..elementary, jr. high and high school. ??and if they only work 9 months out of the year. (summer's off)
I work as an advisor at a college now and i absolutely love it. However I want to go for my masters in education and im thinking about counseling because i really like what I do now. I don't want to get a masters in teaching because I have been told that having a bachelors in elem/sec education pays the same as if you have a masters. (my bachelors is in business/finance). I would like to teach but at the university level. After my masteres I am thinking of getting my Ph.D. in TESL to teach english to foreign students. However I can't find schools who have a Doctorate program for Teaching English to Other Language speakers...

any ideas? :) thank YOU

Note that a sequence of links from a higher level theory to particle physics (e.g. evolution to biochemistry, etc) in itself is a weak evidence for a reduction because of the modeling and assumptions used. Some say that reductions are too complex to prove, these links are the best we can do, so the evidence is strong. It's a strange logic. These links are strong evidence for some relationship between the theory and a more elementary one, for some kind of reduction, but not necessarily for the (standard) reduction. So, we have evidence for the successful application of elementary particle physics in chemistry, etc, but unless one carefully consider the models and the assumptions used, we don't know if these links correspond to the standard reduction.

Do you know if someone made such a study? For example, someone might have attempted to find some recurring pattern in the assumptions and models used to see if there is an indication of a special kind of reduction.

maybe i have it all wrong - just looking for thoughts from people who may know more about this subject than I do.

if the observable universe is made up mostly of dark matter, and if light is both a particle and a wave, then what is happening to all the light that is being emitted in every direction by stars?

are there any theories about all the light that is emitted but not absorbed or reflected by regular matter in the universe (not dark matter)?

are there any theories about the edges of the universe being composed of light particles or photons and such?

Recently I noticed that when I take in a deep breath, I get a pain in the left side of my chest. It is not intense, but it was sharp enough that it startled me. It is only noticeable when I breathe deeply. It feels somewhat like the pressure/tightness of an asthma attack without any difficulty of moving air. (Yes, I do have asthma but this does not appear to be related to it.)

Also, I have been noticing some sporadic tingling in my fingers and my face the last few days.

I have no idea if these two are related or not. I plan on seeing a doctor, but in the meantime I was wondering if anyone might have insight. Thanks.

IN THE SERVICE

A man was being interviewed for a job. "Were you in the service?" ask the interviewer.

"Yes, I was a Marine," responded the applicant.

"Did you see any active duty?"

"I was in Vietnam for 2 years and I have a partial disability."

"May I ask what happened?"

"Well, I had a grenade go off between my legs and I lost both testicles."

"You're hired. You can start Monday at 10 am."

"When does everyone else start? I don't want any preferential treatment because of my disability."

"Everyone else starts at 7 am but I might as well be honest with you. Nothing gets done between 7 and 10. We just sit around scratching our balls trying to decide what to do first."
