I am moving out of the apartment that I have lived in for five years. We were allowed to have our two dogs, and we asked the landlady if it would be OK if we put in a doggie door. My boyfriend (at the time) said to her, "you'll probably rent to others with dogs or we can replace the door when we leave", so she let us put one in. So I got a message from the landlady the other day reminding me that I have to replace the door. Should I tell her to take it out of the deposit? I think she wants me to just pay for it, outside of the deposit. I know that there's a possibility that she'll rent to someone else with a dog. Nothing was ever signed saying that I would replace the door when I left. What should I do? I have been on good terms with the landlady and I prefer to keep it that way, but I don't want to get screwed over, either. I live in Montana, if it makes any difference. Thanks in advance!!
