Have an old Compaq deskpro with Windows 2000 Professional, and bootup time has gone from 5 minutes to over 12 minutes.
I regularly use Ccleaner, dskchk, Disk Cleanup and Disk Defrag. I've even uninstalled lots of software too (such as Windows Media Player, Baseline Security, Java Console, etc.) all to no avail.
So I think the problem lies with all the programs I rarely use that are starting on bootup, such as the BT Yahoo Browser, BT Helpdesk, BT Communicator with Instant Messenger, etc.
Is there a way I can remove these from starting up automatically, but leave them for a manual startup when needed?
Or am I on the wrong trail, and I should do something else? (Other than buy a new PC - that's a year away:( )
Thanks folks, your guidance will be much appreciated.
