If you have sufficient stored body fat you can survive on virtually no food for that length of time. But you will need more than 8-10 oz. of water per day because you lose at least 64 oz. due to perspiration and exhalation. So do not restrict your water intake and maybe allow yourself some juice from time to time.
Yoy will have incredible hunger pangs for a few days when you will be greatly tempted to eat, but they will subside after about a week. So I don't think there is any benefit to cleansing the toxins in your life (physically or spiritually) to fast beyond that.

What you are describing is not a fast. Fasting is not eating. Muslims eat through the night they do not ereally fast. In fasting you completely abstain from food, becasue that is necessary in order to shut down the digestive tract in order to allow your energy to go directly to healing and quickness of mind. It is not all that simple, and coming out of it can be very dangerous. You are OK up to a three day fast but anything beyond that and you should so some study on what you are doing before you begin. There are lots of books on it. If you eat a little you will have horendous hunger all the time, f you eat nothing, your hunger dissapears after about two days.

To some, fasting means total abstinence from food and water for a fixed period of time, while others take liquids during their fasts. Missing certain meals or refraining from a particular type of food is considered fasting by many.
Grolier International Encyclopedia states: “Research suggests that fasting may be healthful and, when engaged in carefully, may bring about heightened states of consciousness and sensibility.”
The Sunday Times of India Review reports: “A Jain muni [sage] in Bombay [Mumbai] drank just two glasses of boiled water a day—for 201 days. He lost 33 kg [73 lb].”
Long-term unsupervised fasting can be hazardous.
Journalist Parul Sheth says that after the body has drawn on its store of carbohydrates, it next converts muscle proteins into glucose and then turns to the body fat. Changing fat into glucose releases toxic products called ketone bodies. As these accumulate, they move to the brain, harming the central nervous system. “This is when fasting can turn dangerous,” says Sheth. “You can get confused, disoriented, and worse. . . . [It can cause] coma and eventually death.”

I dont know about the hindus but the muslims fast during the month of Ramadhan. They wake up Before Fajr, they eat and they close the fast when fajr starts. They fast during the day eating or dirnking nothing. They cant have sexual relations. After sunet, At maghrib time they open their fasts. We dont have a limit of how much we are allowed to eat but we shouldnt stuff ourselves. (theres a hadith). There are exceptions though. People who are old, sick and not able to fast Dont fast. The traveller doesnt have to fast but should make the missed fasts up. The menstruating woman doesnt fast put she makes up after she has fifnshed and after ramadhan. Many thinks when Jesus fasted for 40 days that he done without food & water, That is not true, Yes he did do without food, But when Jesus broke his fast, he said that he was hungry, he did not said that he was thirsty, Why, because in those 40 days Jesus did drink water. A little imformation on fasting, Years ago I went on a fast. For 3 days, I never saw so many people that did not know I was fasting asking me out to dinner & on picnics, But I kept my fast. I did drink water, & a coke once a day , but no food, When I broke my fast I fixed 2 big Tomato, Lettuce & bacon sandwiches, I gobble them down That was a big mistake, I had the worst stomach ache, when you break a fast do it slowly.

I know a person who has done it.
DO drink more than a single glass of water. You'll end up in the hospital very, very quickly that way. Dehydration will get you much faster than starvation. No food, and a glass of water a day...maybe a week before you're in the ER.
The person I know who did this this just drank things and did not eat, but did drink things like juices and milk that had caloric content.

Fasting in the Muslim tradition, as well as some others is not the total stoppage of food and drink.
It is the stopping during DAYLIGHT hours only.
The early Christians would fast for long periods of time, sometimes months on end. They came up with a 'fortified drink' that allowed them to do so however. By mixing in large amounts of wheat and barley they came up with a rather thick drink and were allowed to h ave as many as eight of these tall glasses a day in order to stay 'fortified'.
That drink?
Can you find it today?
Why yes..............
In England that drink is known as Guinness Beer

Listen here is a fact that you need to know first, in the Bible the term forty was used to describe an acceptable period of time, and not exactly 40 days, you could very possibly do great damage to yourself with this length of fasting and so I suggest that you cut this period down to an acceptable level or number of days instead.

I would suggest fasting like the Rasul (SAW) did, on Mondays and Thursdays throughout the year. I think this would be more beneficial than fasting for 40 days.
Long fasts should be reserved for the Holy Month of Ramadan, so that your body can change it's routine "routinely" every year, and that you can look forward for these days with happiness and anticipation.
