I'm hoping that someone on here has some gift ideas for my parents. They've been boating recreationally for their entire lives, but next summer they're taking the big plunge and buying a boat to live on with their two dogs. They'll mostly be living on the coasts and waterways in country for the first year or two. They're set for a lot of stuff (lifejackets, etc), but I'd appreciate any ideas on something to get them that they wouldn't have on the small boat. Or any feedback on a book that someone has personally read and would prepare them for the new lifestyle.

Winter Parking!

One winter morning in Essex a couple were listening to the radio while eating breakfast. They heard the announcer say, "We are going to have 8 to 10 inches of snow today. You must park your car on the even-numbered side of the street, so the snowploughs can get through." Norman's wife went out and moved her car.
A week later while they were again eating breakfast, the radio announcer said, "We are expecting 10 to 12 inches of snow today. You must park your car on the odd-numbered side of the street, so the snowploughs can get through." Norman 's wife went out and moved her car again.
The next week they were again having breakfast, when the radio announcer said, "We are expecting 12 to 14 inches of snow today. You must park ..."
Then the electric power went off.
Norman's wife was very upset, and with a worried look on her face she said, "Honey, I don't know what to do. Which side of the street do I need to park on so the snowploughs can get through?"
With the love and understanding in his voice that all men who are
married to blondes exhibit, Norman said. "Why don't you just leave it in the garage this time?"

I love Slouvaki that you can get in a Greek Restraunt with the pork tenderloin, but when we moved we moved to a town that doesn't have a Greek Restraunt. So sad. Does anyone have a good recipie for Slouvaki to make at home? Just the marinated meat, I know what I like for condiments. THANKS!

I already have 2 lentil soup recipes that I like, one of which includes potatoes, spinach, and a bit of allspice, the other of which uses leeks and sausages. I'm wondering what other flavor combinations I might try. Will you tell me what you like to use?

I would rather know what ingredients YOU like to use in your own kitchen than get a link, if possible. Thanks everybody.

Yeah, I know this event is supposed to happen in roughly 10 billion years and that our sun will have burnt out some 6 billion years prior to that. However, for the sake of argument, lets say that our solar system, sun and even human civilization were intact when this event were to happen. What would happen to our solar system, or indeed our planet? Would gravitational forces pull our solar system apart? Would our planet be captured by another sun, or our solar system grab additional planets? Would there be any collisions with other planets and or stars?

By all means, please feel free to engage in heavy physics if you feel the need.

I briefly considered a career in nursing, but I was scared away by all of the horror stories of b*tchy, cliquey, catty coworkers, mistreatment and attitude from patients, doctors who look down on nurses, mean supervisors, lack of retirement savings, physical and mental stress, etc. (just google "i hate nursing" to read it all). I know there are good points and bad points to each career, but it seems like the people who hate their nursing careers REALLY hate it a LOT. Some nurses were so depressed by their jobs that they cried all the time and wanted to commit suicide. Is it really that bad?

Anyone else out there a fan of the band Nitzer Ebb???? I can't seem to find their new album available anywhere but Amazon UK, and I'm not paying their absurd prices. Nitzer Ebb defined a generation of "Nouveaux punks" (not to mention their GAY appeal) in the 90's and their music was absulutely brilliant. I would RUN to see them, should they tour the US.-----------------------------------------

Part 2: are there any A3 fans out there? In the UK they are known as Alabama 3 (A3 in the USA, as not to be confused with the c/w band Alabama.) If you are unfamiliar with them, they are the band that does the theme for the HBO show The Sopranos, but their music talents FAR EXCEED the Soprano's theme. I just love this band , but as of yet, they have NEVER toured anywhere in the US. I find that odd, since their most commercially popular song is the theme for an American made TV show.
And of ya'all fans, what is your favorite song? Mine would have to be "Power in the Blood". These guys ROCK!
