i rescued a baby chocolate oranda that has his fins kinda messed up. ive been puting mela fix in the tank does anyone know if thats good stuff? so far he has been eating well and swimming around good. ive got him on a flake and vegetable diet.

How is his fin 'messed up'? Is it torn due to an injury, or is it finrot? If it looks frayed and is receding and/or reddish, it is finrot. Use Maracyn-2.
Keep his water very, very clean (do twice weekly water changes of 20-30%).

He should recover nicely!

Messed up how? Fuzzy, white, torn up? melafix is pretty worthless IMO. best things to do are keep it fed a good variety of food (esp. veggies like you mentioned) and make sure the tank is cleaned regularly (big partial water changes)

If you see your oranda swimmin' around kickin' that is a good sign that everything your doing is fine. good job!
