Why is it that we say we are chilley when Chillie con Carne is hot?

I cannot download the pictures in the Internet in any other formats except Bitmap (.bmp), even if its original format is not bitmap. But if the picture is downloaded with a link, example like when we're searching for pictures in Yahoo!, it will appear in smaller picture and we can get the original size by clicking the small picture. If I download it by clicking 'Save Target As' on the link, I can get it with the original format.
My question is, is my computer being infected by a virus or something like that? Or it can be solved by only changing the settings? Because it's not used to be like that.
