255 BC. Like with the number line, before 0 the numbers look like they decrease but they are getting more value.
eg -3 -2 -1 0 1 2 3
Same with years before and after Christ was born.
eg 3 BC 2 BC 1 BC 1 AD 2AD 3AD and so on.

Who knew that JC would be born in 256 years time?
Today we would say the year would be 255BC, because it would be 1 year less to JCs birth - what it was called at the time i have no idea, probably nothing!

We would say 255 BC, but no idea what they would have called it at the time. They weren't counting down to the birth of Christ, were they? (Not in years like that, anyway.)
