While on a vacation to NYC I want to go up to Philly for the day. I was thinking of going up on a Sunday in December. Are the touristy things open on a Sunday? Would there be a better day to visit? Also should I spend the night there, or can you see enough in just 1 day and take the train back to NYC in the evening?

I moved to Philadelphia about a month ago, and I really have no idea where to go. I've done the South Street thing (you can only go there so many times before you get bored) I've walked around Old City, Rittenhouse Square, etc. I'm a bit young to be going to bars and clubs, so what else is there to do? Anything that is FREE would be even better.

We're already going to the Mutter Museum, the main point of the trip, and are staying at the Alexander Inn. Our group consists of two goths (one a singer, one a body piercer), a demolitionist/ driver, and a goat farmer/soapmaker - regular historical stuff doesn't really hold our attention.
