New York City (United States, Travel)

last time we stayed near 51st (the waldorf astoria). We always had to jump on the rail to go anywhere. This time I want to stay somewhere fun where we can walk more. Any ideas?? i've only been once so any tips will help! :)

Parking near Javits Center - New York?

We are visiting New York for a conference at the Javits center and staying at the Crowne Plaza Times Square. We are driving into New York City.

What are the options for Parking? Crowne Plaza charges US$39/day for parking (ouch!). Are there any cheaper (and safe) alternatives?

Where is a good reasonable priced place to stay in NY??

I would like something near all the shopping, Times Square and Central Park, but everything costs upwards into 300 a night or more. I could handle a little inconvience for a lot less a night. I want to be somewhere nice though...not in a dump or bad part of town. I'm not that familiar with NY.

Does anybody know the Colombus Hostel in NYC ? (Colombus Ave; 83rd Street ?)?

I'm going to stay in this hostel begining of December and i'm really worried about the (bad) comments i've read about it on the net ?

Just going through the craigslist postings - If I am looking for a room in the 10011 zip code area, would that fall under West Village, Chelsea, or Greenwich Village? Also, it seems as though there is some overlap between these areas. Are there clearly defined boundaries, or is it loosely defined?
