Check out Central Park & also the Natural History Museum that is west of the park on the side street. Its amazing & now has the dinosaur bones display. When I was there,,admition was a donation. You'll love it.You can get a map booklet of NYC while you are there.Id suggest staying in Manhatten & checking out the different neighborhoods which will also be in the booklet. If possible,,choose your points of interest before you go so you can map out your route around the big apple. You dont want to keep backtracking for that wastes alot of time.Do make reservations before you go.There are doings also @ Madison Square Gardens & Broadway. There is The Staue of Liberty & The Empire State Building. You may also visit Ground 0. Have a Great time.Dress warm & comfortable shoes.

There are lots of interesting museums that they would most likely enjoy, but then again, not everyone is a big "museum person". One thing that I find interesting, is that if you have any ancestors that came in through Ellis Island, you can go to the island and look them up on a computer database, with a bunch of photos of documents of their voyage and other things that make you feel a lot more connected to your heritage. If the Ellis Island visit doesn't apply to you, then i recommend general sight seeing. New York is a city with a lot of history and archetecture in it, which sometimes in the rush of everything, you can easily forget about. It also depends on the childrens interests, if they'd like to shop somewhere or go to a certain museum or something. New York has a little somethign for everyone, what would be best for these kids to enjoy the trip the most is most likely more personal than being able to get a full answer on Yahoo Answers.

Absolutely without question the Museum of Natural History & the Hayden Planetarium (they adjoin; one admission). They can have a great time & eat in the cafeteria. You can easily spend the whole day there. Also try the the Metropolitan Museum of Art. The Armour, weapons, Roman & Egyptian exhibits there will interest them. There are usually kid oriented special Christmas exhibitions. Then there's the American Indian Museum way downtown. While there, visit Chinatown in the afternoon. It'll interest you as well as them. You can eat there or in Little Italy.
