I am considering a family trip to Catalina Island with two young kids during the Christmas week. Is this a good time to visit there weatherwise?

I've lived in this city all my life and I've seen a lot of what it has to offer. But for the next 5 days or so, I am entirely without obligations - I've got the days off of work, my wife and son are in Chicago. All I have to do is feed our pets.

I've seen a lot of what LA has to offer, and a lot of stuff that you wouldn't normally think is cool. But I seriously doubt I've exhausted the possibilities of this ginormous city. So... what else? What should I go see the next few days? Where should I eat? What, I ask you, ought I to do with myself?

Whats a better option once you got Catalina island during the last week of December .. take a guided tour or just walk through the Avalon and explore yourselves.

A lot ot tourists can't find it.
It looks big only when hiked around, or under binoculars

I mean let's be serious
The French Eiffel tower is 300m
The Italy Pisa tower is 56m
Can't they build our sign not 15m but at least 50m high?

Some say the sign is 'ugly'. Why doesn't LA build a pretty tower? Any symbol that is higher than 15m

im going to the NAMM show (National Association of Music Merchants) in january and one of the best parts of our trip last year was all the stops along the way. we went to Randy Rhoads gravesite and a bunch of tiny obscure music shops. i know there has to be plenty of other cool spots to check out.

My family and I have 7 hours in LA on the way home from a vacation. We arrive in LA at 4pm and our next connection is not until 11.15 pm, international departure. If it matters it happens to be a Friday in mid January.

We are looking for something we can do for the 5 or so hours that that would give us. Ideally something near to the airport as I don't want to risk being stuck in traffic and missing the flight.

2 Adults + 1 8yr old + 1 4yr old.

Perhaps even somewhere we can go and have dinner and have a walk around might be ok.

Thanks in advance.

Jay
