There's a posibility that I could land a job in Brownwood. I google it and it seems that is a very tiny town, population 25,000, one university, one hospital and a very lame mall.Major cities are 3 hours away, houses are not that pretty and the lake is very ugly at least what I have seen so far in pictures. My dilema is if I should move to this town or not with my wife and kids? I am not sure if they will survive it since we are used to lived in a busy city. What is around brownwood that is fairly decent? Can anyone help us? Pleaseeee :0)

you don't have to limit your response to Austin. I simply chose that because I was required to choose one. When I stay in Austin I stay with my little brother.

We are sick of the California lifestyle!!!! Any info or input would be great! We have two kids (3,12) both boys. Tell us about the weather, the economy, what is fun to do there, places to visit, good schools, nice areas to live, how the job market is, etc.

I'm considering moving to Austin from Los Angeles, to take advantage of the lower cost of living and family-oriented environment. However, I'm really concerned that, despite it's reputation for being a liberal college town, that it still is quite conservative comparted to L.A. For example, will we stick out if we don't go to church every Sunday? Will my kids definitely grow up to have thick Texas accents? Is there a growing dislike for Californians given the recent migration wave into Austin? Any other negatives I should be aware of? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Because I there was a guy that I use to work with and told me about mardi gras on 6th street? He asked me, "Ever been to mardi gras in Austin? And I said, no. Then he pauses and says to me, "Nuff said." and I started laughing.

I plan to move to Austin real soon and heard that Austin is a great place to live. I"ve only been to Austin for school. I attended ITT Technical Institue off of hwy 290, but never really had the chance to visit 6th street or other places. I've also noticed that there are alot of friendly and down to earth people in Austin. Everytime I go there, people always give me a warm smile and hello.

My husband and I are considering a move to Austin. We are 30 yrs. o.d, no kids yet. We'd like a suburb not too far from downtown (don't mind a 15-20 min. drive). and we'd like to be around the hills and Lake Travis. Any suggestions?

My wife and I just moved to Texas and are looking for a game to join, maybe to start if we can't find one. Any suggestions on where on line to look or post, or what stores to go to? Years of experience and an almost complete library of gaming materials await a way to use them... .

I need to find a place for my uncle. He has 2 dogs, and needs to be able to stay over night in a tent, and have facilities to use. Preferably between the Austin and Dallas area.

I'm going to Austin on Thursday and will stay until Sunday. I've been a few times before, but I'm looking for new things to do. Any suggestions.

I've been to Volenete Beach, Hamilton Pool, Barton Springs, of course The Oasis, and sixth street.

I'm taking a trip to the Austin area in about three weeks, during which time I have to at least get some idea of what community I want to call home. I'm looking for something away from the big box retailers and the cookie-cutter housing tracts - something with a little history; some place native Austinites themselves would be proud to show off. Suburbia doesn't sound the least bit attractive to us; we're looking for a place that's safe, walkable and ecclectic. I've heard that this is to be found in the south part of Austin. Is that true? Specifically where should I be looking? Are there any other areas that sound like they might tickle my fancy? Please give me as much detail as possible.

Also, give me a few places places to visit while I'm there that would convice me that there's nowhere else I'd rather live.

Thanks!
