There's a posibility that I could land a job in Brownwood. I google it and it seems that is a very tiny town, population 25,000, one university, one hospital and a very lame mall.Major cities are 3 hours away, houses are not that pretty and the lake is very ugly at least what I have seen so far in pictures. My dilema is if I should move to this town or not with my wife and kids? I am not sure if they will survive it since we are used to lived in a busy city. What is around brownwood that is fairly decent? Can anyone help us? Pleaseeee :0)

Most small towns are very clic-ish and you may have a hard time not fitting in. They may have a surface of being freindly and welcoming but you will always be the outsider. If you are a different religion than the majority of the population it will be even harder. Living in a busy city is a universe removed from living in a small town. In the small town I grew up in the big excitement was to see what the delivery truck was unloading at the Sears catalog store. They didn't have a real Sears just a catalog store where you picked what you wanted out of the book and it was delivered to the store 4 weeks later. Actually, personally I would avoid Texas altogether. Just my experience.

Me?....No...because I live on the other side of the world. But I am pretty sure that there is some good and some bad everywhere. If I am in your position I will concern more about travelling from home to work...etc....To live in the big city will cost you more on the travelling time as well as the cost of fuel. Less population is always less crime. I would be happy that at least there is one university where my kids doesn't have to be far away from us compared to other town which doesn't have a single university at all. I think this town is the good place as there is one hospital available in hand incase of emergency. Who care about the "very lame mall" as you mentioned? We do not spend most of our time there. It is just for shopping or get something you need, and if it is not up to your satisfactory you can go to the nearest bigger town on the weekend. So the whole family can have some kind of change (with the routine). Talking about the lake that you feel it is very ugly from what you have seen from the picture. Why not discovered it by yourself? The ugly of somebody taste might be the most beautiful thing to other, which you never know. Think of the bright side please. And if you still doesn't like this lake may be you can take some vacation and take your family to Luzern Lake in Switzerland, Lago D'Iseo in Italy or nearest for you compare to me is Lake Superior or Lake Michigan. All those lakes I really admired and had such a great experienced there. May be i will take some vacation and visit Brownwood Lake one day.

Me ain't never been to no place called that, but it sound like it be bad. I hope the pay be good, cause the town's probably gonna suck a fat 1. Because there's nothing to do, your kids will probably get all into having sex and drinking beer and taking drugs and car-surfing. True, city kids do some of the same stuff, but not to the same excess or at such a tender age. Your wife will probably be shunned by the other wives, and start popping pills and having lots of sex w/ the Mexican yard-man. But, if the pay is good, it'll be worth it.

Depends on your attitude about it---the move doesn't have to be permanent. You might be able to afford things in Brownwood (like electric rates, etc.) that are much higher in other areas.
If you're getting out into smaller-town Texas, people take Church activities pretty seriously, and talk about them a lot. But if you have children, smaller-town life might be lots of fun for them---they might like the change and adventure of new surroundings.
It's also true in smaller towns that people concentrate more on family activities and child-related life--it doesn't bore them like it might in a large city..

Yee Haaaaw! Sounds like a lovely hick town.
I just did a quick search, and found some 2000 crime stats. They probably haven't changed much. If anything Crime is probably less now considering the economy is better than it was in 2000

Sorry, man, but down here a population of 25,000 is NOT considered a very tiny town.
