i just moved here a week ago from PA. www.apartmentguide.com helped me. i really wanted to buy a house in the area, but the distance and time required to find a house was too great. I settled with an apartment close to UT with good ratings.

If you are coming down for grad school or something I suggest looking up apartments that are on the UT shuttle. I would also suggest starting soon. My #1 choice in location was taken up and I had to settle with another apartment. They are going quickly, act soon if you want something decent.

Northwest and West Austin is cleaner & nicer but is more expensive.

East Austin seems to have more crime.

Southeast is pretty decent in the right spots. If you get something really close to AMD you'll be in a good area.

Austin is full of hotels and motels but it is still tourist season til early September. Best price might be with Motel 6 or Days Inn. They both have toll free numbers.

Motel 6...Reservations: 800-4-MOTEL6 800-466-8356

Days Inn...Reservations 1-800-329-7466 or
1-800-DAYS-INN

Enjoy your visit. God Bless
