etxcpl4fun62 was right about San Antonio having Six Flags and Sea World, but forgot to mention Schlitterbahn Water Park in New Braunfels, TX which is about 45 miles from Austin on I-35, Schlitterbahn is a 60 acre water park split into two different parks, the best part is you can bring a cooler filled with drinks, food, etc... and leave it by a picnic table and no one will bother it. San Antonio also has the Spurs NBA team, the tower of Americas, the Alamo, the Riverwalk, and from Austin you are a short drive from Houston, Dallas/Ft. Worth (home of the real Six Flags) Ripley's believe it or Not, and Emperial Times, which is a medieval style resturaunt where you dont use silverware. Also in your girls night out portion of the question, Austin is best known for 6th street which has numerous clubs bars and sit back and relax restaurants. And if you have a yen for college football, got catch a game at Memorial stadium, home of the national champion Texas Longhorns.

Welcome to Texas and hope this is what you were looking for.

I just moved to Austin in April. I have been using two free newspapers to find stuff to do. The Greensheet and the Chronicle. I'm guessing you have already found them. YOu can go down to Congress Ave. bridge and watch the bat colony. There are many parks. I picked up a lot of good guides about Texas towns and State Parks at the Visitors Center located next to the Capital Building. The Capital is worth a look too. Remember you are in Texas, family BBQ is popular. Barton Springs at Zilker Park is a nice place to go swimming. Lake Travis is a great place to spend the day, I like Windy Point, they have BBQs and there are picnic tables with coverings to protect you from the sun. The water is great too. Have fun!!!

There is so much to do in Austin. Go into the hill country and seek out a great watering hole. The CVB Tourist Board has loads of information. Great music on 5th St area and Wherehouse district. Congress Ave bridge at dusk is cool too....

Neither call is in any respect my type, yet i imagine Austin and Carter flow mutually more beneficial effectual than Spencer and Austin. Spencer makes me photo a nerdy little boy with glasses, while Austin and Carter both sound type of united states and roughneck-ish.

Sixth Street, Bob Bullock Museum, The University of Texas campus and Tower, state capitol building, LBJ Library, UT football, basketball, etc., shopping in San Marcos & Round Rock and Georgetown; San Antonio within shouting distance; Salado for antiques. You are now living in the best place on earth and I'm jealous! I'm still in Houston, and miss Austin (where I went to college and my son resides in nearby Round Rock).

Specifically for kids...

- Shlitterban and/or Valente Beach
- Rock Climbing (indoor with lots of padding, kids love it, Austin Rock Gym or Main Event)
- Zilker Park (swimming, wading in the river, feeding the ducks, canoe, playgrounds)
- Ice Skating (Northcross Mall)
- Toy Joy and Terra Toys (great local toy stores, fun for all ages)

Okay, here is the correct answer. The BEST thing to do in Austin is to go to Hippie Hollow on Lake Travis. That is the place where you and your family will be able to relax and enjoy the environment naturally, as God, in Her infinite wisdom, intended for you to enjoy life. You already have everything you will need.
