Looking for honest answers, I have an opportunity to go and live in Toronto for at least a year, no real worries, I have been to Canada, Canadians are good people and the country is relaxed, civilised and stunning, so I want to go. However I have never experienced a Canadian winter Canadians think I am woos for worrying but most Brits I have met who have been in the winter say it can be a real drag and get you down any thoughts?

canadian cities...toronto,montreal,halifax,calgary,edmonton,vancouver,st johns,hamilton,london,winnipeg,regina,saskatoon,quebec,victoria,oshawa, etc etc......

what would be the closest american cities in regards to archetecture, size, culture, history, layout, etc

i mean apart from the obvious. obviously windsor is kinda like detroit because they exist side by side, but i think there are american cities elsewhere that are more like windsor in terms of size, crime rate, culture, education, racial makeup

so what american cities are remenisent of canadas major metros?

which part? Don't you wish it would be summer already? I am from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan and it is bitterly cold out. We have tons of snow and I am so sick of it! I can't wait until it melts all away and the grass turns green and the leaves start to come out!!!! Aaah!! It is so far away! At least four months!

Although I don't agree with them, I can at least sympathise with Quebec separatists. They have a unique culture and language that differs from English Canada.

But Alberta separatists are a joke. Are cowboy hats, guns and pickup trucks "unique"??? Maybe to Canada, but Alberta culture is nothing more than a ripoff of a segment of U.S. culture.

And as for all the money they bring into Canada from oil revenues, it wasn't always like that. Before oil was discovered in the 1920s, Alberta had its collective hand out to the rest of Canada saying "please help us."

As for Albertans feeling "Western alienation", well, that comment doesn't hold water with me. I'm from Winnipeg originally and no one there feels "alienated." Canada was built East to West not the other way around. If you can't deal with the fact that Toronto, Ottawa and Montreal get all the glory and recognition, then TOUGH. Your forefathers chose to live out in the middle of nowhere, so don't blame the rest of us.
