I want to know the quickest possible route to Canberra from Melbourne and how long it takes. I have heard only 5 hours since construction of the Albury bypass. Any ideas?

This is definately spur of the moment and have just recieved my passport-I'm a little anxious to finally travel!! My question is, I've heard you have to have your passport at least 3 monthes before you can travel to New Zealand. So, I'm a little dissapointed because I wanted to go in about a 3 weeks. Is this true? If so, is there any way around this? Thanks so much

Hello, we'd like to visit the Great Barrier Reef in October. We're trying to decide if we should fly from Sydney to Cairns or to Fraser Coast (Hervey Bay). If we fly to Fraser Coast, we'll probably go to Lady Musgrave Island. Can anyone please tell us how our experience at the reef will be different if we were to go to Cairns instead? We will NOT be scuba diving. It'll be our first trip to Australia. Thanks so much in advance.

My husband and I recently got married in NZ and are now toying with the idea of emigrating for good. Its a beautiful country, clean, green and alot friendlier than UK any day.
I hate the British Government and what they are doing to this country. Slowly but surely this country is losing everything that was ever great about it. Im only 32 but feel if I stay here its only going to get worse. Crime, NHS, tax, poor wages, immigration, unemployment.....shall I go on!!
Only problem Ive got is Im an only child and dont really want to leave my mum behind. She is 60 this year and we are very close. My dad dies when I was young from cancer and ever since then we have a strong bond. My mum says she would live over there with us but my step-dad, who I love ...wont move. He is typical Uk born and bred and wont leave the country. I can understand that its my life I have to think of ( and my husbands!) and I would love to live in New Zealand but Im scared I would miss my mum so much.

As usual, its totally misinterpited by outsiders who seem to misplace it as jelousy. Its not a case of "oh your successful lets nock you off your high horse", but a case of us aussies seeing everyone as equals, regardless of race, colour, socalled social status, how rich you are, how well you are dressed.

All these mean nothing to us, essentually we are all humans and your **** does stink. Its also the reason why we like to see the poms get flogged in cricket :), those pompous dimwits!

How would you go about doing this? I mean the real Australian English, not the stereotypical one, I know full well Australians don't go round saying "g'day" to everyone they meet. But I know there are quite a lot of unique words and sometimes even grammar differences that are used in everyday speech. For example, I get the impression you don't say "he got beaten up yesterday", you say, "he got bashed yesterday", I've only ever heard an Australian use "bash" to refer to being beaten up.

How would I go about learn these differences?
