If he's into music - a didjeridoo would be a great gift, but authentic ones are quite expensive.

If you're on a budget and not from a surf-obsessed nation - any surf-related merchandise would probably be a hit - Look for Billabong, Ripcurl, etc.

Aboriginal Art Y-shirts or T-shirts with the Aboriginal flag.

If he's got a warped sense of humour - a little something in cane toad (ewww- wallets, key rings, etc) might entertain him.
(See "Souvenir Cntral" in Queen Street Mall for these any hundreds of other good souvenir gifts.
Southbank is great for quirky gift shopping also.

LOL at the person who thinks that if someone makes fun of your kid, they'll get in trouble. Let's be honest here from one who is in school, and not a "bad" school either, unless the bullying gets to the point where they are physically fighting in a hall/class nobody will do anything. Principals and teachers will say they take care of it but they typically don't. Anyway, onto Bailey. It's mostly used on girls but unisex to the point where he may be teased a little but some kid is bound to say they know another male Bailey. I personally think it's adorable on a boy. You can attempt giving him a nickname (most teachers ask for nicknames while role calling). He could possibly go by his last name? I mean if it's something like Mahachyesb obviously not. But if it's something like James, Jackson, Fletcher, ect he could use that. Good luck and welcome to America!

Please don't buy native wildlife products!

I would go for something typically Australian like a boomerang or a small didgeridoo - you can get them quite reasonably priced from gift shops. Don't worry about finding one - they are literally around every corner in Australia!

get him a kangaroo nut-sack. They are real leather pouches which were Kangaroo's nut sack (scrotum). A very funny and interesting gift. You are meant to put jewellery in.
Also a boomerang and a didgeridoo
