The expiry date on your passport must be more than 3 months AFTER the date you plan to leave NZ.

The day you get any passport you can travel, you have been given wrong information.
If you are traveling alot around the world and your passport is about to expire they suggest updating one before you leave. I assume you have one for ten years, so no hassles there at this stage.
But between NZ and Australia is fine as it's very easy to get to passports in either country issued by NZ or Australia.
Have fun in NZ - and make sure you do the South Island (especially see Nelson).

No way. Someone has mistaken the requirement to have 3 months to go on your passport - you'll be fine with 5 years to go. Check out www.purenewzealand.com for a preview of what you are going to see.

I've never heard of that before. A passport is a passport so as long as you have an up to date one it should be fine.

As far as Im aware, that's absolute nonsense. I got my passport 5 days before flying out to Auckland for the first time and no one stopped me from coming into the country.
Unless they've changed the rules very, very recently you shouldnt have a problem.
