I'm going to Japan, and will be in Osaka, and I'd really like to see a Bunraku performance at the National Theatre. I tried calling thier box office but nobody speaks english, and they got very frustrated with me trying to find the right words in my phrase book. Does anyone know if I can do this online? Or if there is an agancy that can help me?

I will be going to Japan for an extended period of time and I don't want to keep going to an ATM at the post office there to get cash from my Washington Mutual checking account in America. I will be setting up a bank account in Japan with a Japanese bank, and I am hoping to be able to transfer funds from my WAMU account to the one in Japan. If you have any solutions they would be much appreciated. Thanks!

I am planning to go to Japan from the end of August to the first week of September (9 days), and since I am leaving soon, I want to know what is the weather like at this time of year back there? What are the common courtesies among the Japanese (like taking off shoes)? I am going alone and staying in a hostel and I will not know the best places to eat, shop, etc. Any suggestions? Are there things I should look out for like rush hours on trains? Pickpockets? Pervs? How much do you think I should bring for a 9 day trip? (minus hotel accomodations and transportation as I will be getting the JR pass). Just tell me anything about Japan that you might think is useful for a tourist like me. Thanks very much!

**By the way, to the good peole who answered my last question about bank statements for a tourist visa, I will be applying on Monday so wish me luck!**

This may seem foolish, but I've always been afraid that I won't be able to move to Japan because it will become to crowded. That's just the way I am. I have dedicated alot of time to studying the culture and learning the language. Would anyone mind giving me some tips on how to get to Japan easier without getting stressed. I can see that my future is in Japan, but I can't help but worry about so many daunting things. Would anyone mind giving me some tips or comfort?

because it's not!

Where do they get this info?
Do they not read?
Do they not try to educate themselves?

I wouldn't care much if these comments were in a form of a question like 'Do Japanese People Eat Dogs?" Or "I heard somewhere that they eat dogs in Japan. I'm not sure though..."
Or something like that.

But NO! Most of the comments I have seen specificly implies that "yes, the Japanese eat dogs on a regular basis." as if they visited Japan and munched on a poodle themselves!
What the hell???

I am a Permanent resident of the USA and I am planning to go to Japan for 9 days... One of the requirements for a Visa is a bank statement... how much does my bank account need to have so I will get approved for a visa? I only have a checking account because I am a full time college student (read: unemployed) and my parents give me money... Actually they will be paying for my trip to Japan... Do I even need a savings account? So how much do you think I should have in my account? Thanks!

I'll be traveling to Tokyo, Japan and would like to know how far it is between cities so that I can decide where else to go. I'm mostly interested in how long it takes to get from Tokyo to a given city by train since that seems to be the best way to travel in Japan. A link to a website that might tell me this would be appreciated.

I have been looking online for hours and nowhere will give me a number approximate.
I just want a close approximate or a website I can view to see.

Heya! I will be going to Tokyo for 9 days (make that 8 because I will be going to a concert -anyone else watching Arashi?- in one of them), what are the places, landmarks, or anything cool that I definitely should visit? **Places that if I don't go to, it would be like not going to Japan at all!** Your answers are greatly appreciated!

I plan on getting a pump in the $200 range and dont want to destroy it the first time I plug it in in Japan. I travel back and forth from Japan to the US at least 3 times a year and would rather not buy two pumps. Also, I dont know where I would find one the meets my needs in Japan.

I like to have bizarre holidays, and am thinking in September of taking the ferry from Busan to Fukuoka then hitch hiking upto Tokyo (long way, but worth the experience) and camping in Yoyogi Park in Harajuku (been there last year, but not for the camping experience). Anybody have some similar stories they care to share?
I can speak enough Japanese to get by, and might have a camping buddy when I get there.
Interested more in the hitch hiking in Japan stories.
Cheers in advance*☆
