two friends and I are planning to go to Japan for a week the summer of our senior year in high school (two years from now), and we were wondering how much we need to save up.

I think there are a lot of things to do before you plan your trip. First, buy a travel guide. A good one is from Lonely Planet. Link below. If you buy your plane tickets at the right time, then it should cost between $600-900 (maybe more if you go in June to August). The best time for cost and weather to go is in October. Plan to spend $80-150 per night for hotels, depending on where you stay and how many per room. You could spend more, but if you get a double room and share one bed between two, then it will save you some money. Check the hotel link below. They are a good hotel chain all over Japan. They are always nice, clean, decent sized rooms (for Japan, where space is very important) and have great service, though they speak a minimum of English sometimes. I have stayed there many times, and they have saved me a lot of money (a single for $50/night was great). I would plan for $150 each per day for hotel, food and travel expense with an extra $300 just in case. So, if you plan to be there for seven days, then you should take $1350 just to be safe. You can go for less than that, but it's best to be safe when you go to a foreign country. I can give you a lot more information, but it's so far in the future and you may forget. The most important thing is get your passport and have fun in Japan. It's a great place. Also, it gave me my fiance, so I have an extra reason to love Japan.

Japan is very expensive. It really depends on where u go though. Not including airfare, i spent a good 900 dollars and that was AFTER i spent a few days crashing at a friends place. All hope is not lost though. Now, I was in the area of Yokohama's minato mirai section which is very expensive. here are a few sites that might help u find a good place to stay. Even though it is very expensive, it is DEFINITELY worth it.
