Well, what else do you like to do besides clubbing. I think working on finding friends would really improve your time in Tokyo. Have you ever seen a sumo match? They have them at Kokugikan Stadium. In Roppongi, there is Velfarre, a large club. It opened in 94 or 95, I think. I have never been a big party girl but I have been a few times. I love the music and the energy. Attire can be casual, but not too much so. I always dress nice at clubs anyway, I don't know how you dress. There are TONS of great museums in Tokyo. Sumo, photography, swords, feudal area museums, art museums. Ueno Park is my favorite park in Tokyo, here is a website for them.

There are baseball games, beautiful gardens( my favorite is Hama Rikyu), aquariums. As a mom, I have also taken my kids to Tokyo Disneyland. It is not as bad as people say it is. You could meet a girl there easily I am sure. In short there are tons of things to do in Japan, I go back often and I have never been bored. I think really your just lonely, find a few good friends and life will improve immensely. The ideas are limitless, and you can contact me for more if you want. I love Tokyo!

I don't think I could ever get bored if I was in Tokyo, let alone all of Japan. some ideas:
Pick the wackiest tv show on tv, and try to figure out whats happening.
Go to a Manga Cafe and practice your reading comprehension
Go People watching in Harajuku
Visit an Onsen and relax while cooking yourself in a hottub
Find out about festivals happening near where you are living and visit some, kanamara matsuri anyone?
Take up photography and document festivals, and other cultural things (ala sushicam)
Pick a direction, get lost intentionally, and then find your way home, wash rinse repeat.
Climb Mount Fuji
Next Spring, go Sakura watching
make extra money (and mabye a few friends) doing eikaiwa (english conversation)
explore akihabara, all of it.
Next large garbage day, upgrade all the electronics/furnature in your apato
pick up geocaching and really get to explore the hidden gems of japan.

its 2 am here, i can't think of anything else to put in here right now, but there are tons of things to do.

Ex-pats in Japan do better if they have some interest of their own. Does anything about Japanese culture interest you--something you'd really like to learn about or learn to do?

The Franciscans have a good language school in Roppongi and you'd be able to meet others struggling with life in Toky--other ex-pats.

If you can afford it, travelling around Japan can be fun. Kyoto is a great place to visit. Lots of different sorts of things to do.

Himeji Castle is beautiful and original (not a reconstruction), and last I knew you could get a volunteer guide to give you a tour in English. Takes about two hours and well worth it.

The YMCA might have activities you would be interested in.

If you are musical you might take up Koto or Shakuhachi. That would get you meeting Japanese people and I think you could make friends that way, or with any other Japanese art form you are interested in.

I don't know if you want Japanese friends or ex-pat friends. The thing about ex-pats is they come and go so often that a lot of them who stay there for very long kind of close off to new friendships with other ex-pats.

Believe it or not a church group is the best way to make friends.
The Japanese who go to Christian churches are usually open to making friendships with Westerners, and Christian ex-pats really do like to meet together for fellowship.

But having a good experience in Japan takes a lot of work on your part. It's possible. I know. I lived there 20 years.

put on an imperial stormtrooper outfit and visit different locations...(oh, someone already did that.) I guess there's always 911, (shoot they closed it) ok.... mmm, how about Akihabara, Shimokitazawa, Shibuya, Yoyogi, Hiroo, Kanda, Omotesando, Ginza, sumo, baseball, museums, galleries, parks, beaches, bookstores, jazz clubs, or just hang out in the starbucks in the Maru building for a day. you could also study japanese, volunteer, teach, write, draw, find a sports club, get on the wall at Geronimos, drive a loud right wing speaker truck, talk to a massage girl, move to saitama (to appreciate how good you have it now), ride the yamanote line 12 hours one way and 12 hours the other way. go to some trade shows in makuhari. peoplewatch in omotesando, and visit Sports Cafe at 2 am., read a book, enjoy great food, go to some of the hundreds of local festivals that go on each year

find some interests and don't go to Roppongi.

There are tons of special interest groups in Tokyo including writers groups, book clubs, game centers, martial arts, religious groups, yoga clubs, dance instruction and a myriad of other things you can do if you just take a little time to look beyond the standard foreigner spots.
