What's better?

A society that is peaceful, that has made ammends for its past problems, that lives in the present moment and just happens to not want to dwell on what bad things a very few people in its past may have done during war to some other people?

or

A society which brings up the past at all times, forgets that its own soldiers have raped, pillaged, and tortured, and that is currently waging a "war" against an unspecified enemy, meanwhile killing hundreds of innocent people, depleting its budget, destroying the environment, and devalueing it's currency?

I'm told that in general, most Japanese do not know how to speak English and cannot converse well in English with foreigners. I'll be going to Japan for my F&E holiday so I'm thinking if I need to pick up some useful phrases just in case I lose my way in Japan and can't get ready help because of the language barrier.

One thing which I find peculiar is, since Japan is undoubtably the most advanced country in Asia, why is the majority of Japanese monolingual? Aren't Japanese supposed to learn English apart from Japanese in schools? Or is it because it is a closed economy with strong cultural and national pride such that it does not feel the need for its people to be effectively bilingual?

Salutations,

I am a civilian, and intend to stay that way, but I was wondering if I could get any input on getting a teaching job for the department of defense in Japan. Any job would do actually.

Looking for the most famous (well known) and more importantly "Honest" music promoter in Tokyo, to book a Great Canadian Band for a 2 to 3 week tour of Tokyo and surrounding area. Anyone out there who can provide me with some contact information regarding this ( website, or email address ). Also, is there a Better Business Bureau in Japan?

I am looking for the largest nightclubs in Kobe. As well as those that hire bands to preform. I need the name of the clubs. Also, the name of any venues where Rock Bands are invited to play in front of a live audience. Thank you for your help.

should the USA have dropped the A bomb on Japan? I would would certainly like to hear what the Japanese people have to say on this matter. I was born in1967 so I have no say on this matter, but I'm not sure that destroying Japan was the way to do it.

I need a list of Japanese Universities, and more specific their e-mail addresses. We are planning on doing Rock and Roll concerts at sites (university auditoriums) in and around Tokyo. If someone can provide me with this information, it would be much appreciated.

Are Caucasian hostesses common in Japan? Are Japanese hostesses more preferred? Basically in a competition of desire, (sorry for the stereotype) if you put a leggy, big blue eyed, busty, long blonde haired American woman against a shorter, Asian brown eyed (any type of Asian shape eye), slimmer bodied, black haired Japanese woman, which would a Japanese man most likely pick as prettier, cuter or sexier (pretty, cute and sexy are all different things)? Also imagine the women have similar personalities and are the same age. This isn't a racial thing. It's just that my friend said that "gaijins" especially Caucasian-American women aren't found very attractive in Japan and Asia. Please post thoughts and/or expierence. Thanks.

I am wanting to move to Japan for a couple years, I am planning on bringing my car plan ticket and 10k dollars to help me get started in my new life. I love Japan and have had 2 friends I have known live there before and now i finally want to go. I was thinking I would teach English, I am currently taking Japanese courses to help with this whole adventure.
I was wanting to bring my car, 10k cash, and i think my friend is coming with me, and other personal effects like laptop etc.
Is there anything I should know before I go ?

I know this houses most of the places in Japan with the highest costs of living, but if you were to compare them (Gunma, Tochigi, Ibaraki, Saitama, Tokyo, Chiba, and Kanagawa), which would turn to have the least cost of living? I wouldn't want to live any farther from this place, so I'm asking.
