Here are 2 ways to go to Kyoto from Koriyama

1. Shinkansen -- 19,810yen
Koriyama - Tokyo by Yamabiko (6 stops/89-minute ride)
Tokyo - Kyoto by Nozomi (3 stops/142minute-ride)

I looked up Yahoo!Travel...
Airplane + hotels for 2 or 3 nights... costs at least 26,800yen.
(Of course it depends when you are going though. It could be nearly 40,000yen)

As Joriental says, airplane is fastest. Maybe that would be a good idea.

Joriental has a point. By the time you pay for a hotel in Kyoto and Shinkansen ticket, you could get a hotel and airfare package out of Fukushima airport for less money. Even if you take the bus and stay in a youth hostel, it would be tough to beat a package deal.

ANA flies 3time/day from Fukushima airport to Itami (Osaka) airport. It is just 70-80min flight. However it is not that cheap (50,000-60,000 for return ticket).

Japanese people don't buy ticket themselves. They use cheap package trip (ticket and hotel).
Ask your Japanese friend to bring you to travel agency or buy Jaran (じゃらん) travel magazine.
