Looking to travel to Japan in the summer of 07' as a graduation gift to myself. But... my friends all have plans of their own so am contemplating on going there on my own for 2-3 weeks. Just backpacking my way around Japan. I just wanted to know, will it be safe for a solo woman traveller to travel around Japan? And how much budget should i be on for the wks i intend to stay there?

I understand that there is a legal requirement in the Philippines for Filipinos age 21-25 to have a written statement from the parents saying they understand that their child intends to marry. Is it proper etiquette for an American man who wishes to marry a 22-year-old Filipina to ask her father for his blessing to marry or does the daughter just let her parents know she will get married or what? I assume that the man should ask the father, but I want to be sure how it is done properly and with respect. What advice would you give to help this conversation be more positive and successful? By the way, the father is college educated and owns a successful business in their province and the family is religious. Just out of curiosity, what if the parents refuse to provide the above-mentioned written document? While of course it is not the best way, can the couple get a waiver for this requirement? Previously, I asked about getting tourist visas to the USA for my girlfriend who is Korean...I was told it shouldn't be too hard unless my girlfriends assets are insufficient...Well that seems to be the problem...She tells me her family as well as her finances are not up to par....so I am not sure what to do....I don't want to get turned down and have trouble getting a visa in the future...Anyone have anymore advice for me?
