If you like fish a lot, then, about January and February, it’s harvest time for a certain kind of fish which is caught just to have its eggs and the fish egg is very popular in Taiwan. But it depends on everyone’s taste. One of my American friends felt it is fish fish; however, others felt it is good.

If you like movies, in early December, there is an international movie festival in Taipei, named Gold Horse Film Festival and there are lots of movies. It is also a goof time for shopping and hot spring. I used to go to the movies and had lunch (many restaurants around the theater) and went to Taipei 101 (close to theater) for shopping and then in late evening went to have a hot spring bath in Yang Ming Shan ( a famous site to visit in Taipei). Compared to LA or San Francisco, it is never cold at all in Taiwan, so I also think it is the best time because after May, it is hot and humid and you will be sweaty and sticky while in no air-conditioned place!

If you are interested in folk activity, in March or early April, there is a pilgrimage which is one of the biggest pilgrimages in the world. You will the culture and thousands of thousands of PEOPLE and especially people’s generosity and hospitality, which is very powerful and touching. Imaging in the pilgrimage you walk for 7 nights and 8 days without any money, any friends with you but you will always have food to eat and have a place to sleep or rest. I have joined the pilgrimage in the last two years and it is very amazing experience in life.

Honestly speaking, owing to the huge population in a small island, Taiwan’s beautiful nature has been destroyed a lot and you have to go to some certain site so you can see its beautiful nature, like Taroko. So I personally think the charming thing to visit Taiwan is to see people’s hospitality, Taiwanese custom activities and culture. However, if you are a botanist, it is worth for you to visit Taiwan because it has super rich and special botany. I bet you will be surprised!

Anyhow, maybe only if you can enjoy yourself to experience a different country and culture, any time is the best time.

Good luck in your searching information and welcome to Taiwan!

The best time to visit Taiwan is after Christmas, Between January and February which around Chinese Lunar New year.
During that time, you could see most celebrated culture in Taiwan.
The weather is perfect during that time, cold but not chill.
The Department have the best on sale at that time because as tranditional culture, people needs to spend their money during the lunar New Year for lucky, therefore, shopping is the big deal for all the business.
I actually plan to visit my family next year by January, because of the weather ( I hate heat! ).

I am taiwanese who lived in Taiwan for more than 20 years.
The weather in Taiwan is very "special" .You can hardly say there is spring and fall. Summer is very hot and humid , winter usually is not too bad but rains a lot. Meanwhile if there is a cold front comes , it is real not pleasant. When is the best time to go? it really depends on your luck and what you are looking for.

By the way, I go to Thailand for my holidays of sun, beach,SPA and shopping.....is that ring any bell for you?

Depending on how much humidity you can take. If you're used to the summer heat and humitdity of Houston, Florida or Southeast Asia. You can go anytime except the winter since they don't have heating there. So it WILL be cold since the humidity magnifies both the heat AND cold. Hotels and public places will be heated though. But overall, March through May and October through November is the best, temperature wise. Have fun.

I went to Taipei during June and December.
In December it was windy and cold, but not as cold as winter in Japan.
But the clothes were limited as they sold mostly winter wear.

June in Taipei was hot, but more clothes to choose from.
