Up in Aomori they have Nebuta Festival in which lanterns are in the shape of animals, people, monsters, and gods

I have tons of pictures from a Chinese New Year celebration in China-town of Nagasaki from a few years ago.. They had many different animal shapes in bright colors. I don't have any of my pictures on the internet yet though...

Here I found someone else's photo page of the festival.. not too many pictures, but a couple of good ones!

Here is another...

For other sites with photos from Nagasaki, search for "Nagasaki Lantern Festival".. I'm not sure what other cities in Japan actually have this festival.. Nagasaki was one of the more culturally diverse cities in Japan.

I am searching all over the net to answer this question, so far however, i'm finding very little, and none of it from japan. http://www.globalsources.com/gsol/I/Novelty-lantern/p/sm/1002634872.htm is from china and they have some animal shapes.

And thats all I can find, mabye someone is better at google-fu than me however.
