Asia Pacific - September 2006

I and my husband are really looking forward to a relaxing and fun-filled weekend getaway in countries within Asia (also hoping to also be able to conceive without any stress and pressure brought by work). I'll be in Tokyo for about a week and I'm looking for recommendations for some good full day iItineraries for one of those days. I'll be traveling with my girlfriend and we typically just like to walk around and explore. Food recommendatons are welcomed as well. Since Tokyo can sometimes be a bit confusing any details on addresses or how to get there would be appreciated.

For those that really live in Japan, lets give the aspiring people a dose of some of the harsh and difficult realities of Japan.
For all of us there are a few things that just makes us gaijin crazy.

1. How long after intially moving to Japan, did the crap start to hit the fan? For example, when did the unwritten rules of your workplace just drive you mad?

2. What do you miss the most from back home?

3. What really sucks about where you live in Japan?

4. Can you make a list of little things about Japan that just adds up to drive you crazy?

My answers:
The unwritten rules of the workplace. Office hours are 0930 - 1830, but to been seen as a hard worker, you have to work overtime. Because I am gaijin, I have to come first and leave last. I started to ignore that rule over 2 years ago.

2. I miss watching sports, NFL, MLB, NBA and a wide open ski resorts.

3. I love my hood

4. not all ATMs are 24 hours, JPN Taxes, "gaijin are dangerous" attitude & more

I would like to fly to Papeete from Japan. I surf some data in the internet and found out that a roundrip from Tokyo to Papeete (in net fare) cost Yen 500000!!!!!!!! Really really pricy!! Hi there

I may be offered a job on a credit card project with Royal Bank of Scotland and Bank of China, based in Beijing. I have a degree, MSc and 3 years of work experience. What salary should I ask for? I know it depends on the job but this has not been clarified just yet - I will be in a project manager support role of some form!

Also, any insight into accommodation rental prices/food prices (Chinese food) would be great. I also want to improve my Mandarin so if anyone has ideas about classes that are run in Beijing that would be great....all recommendations appreciated!!

I'm backpacking with another female for 3 months in Southeast Asia (Thailand, Malaysia, Cambodia, Vietnam, maybe Myanmar, Nepal, and Tibet also). I've been reading that clothing should be modest and not show too much skin - I was planning on bringing tank tops (the ones with thick straps, much like a guy's undershirt) since it will be hot. Is this appropriate clothing??
