Too many variables to consider - Country you are dialing from? Country you are calling? Different phone companies within a country?
To cut down variables (If you are calling from or to USA), buy a prepaid phone card. The number of units per minute you use are usually shown on the card. For example, I use the prepaid phone cards sold at Costco. Calling most asian countries is 5 units per minute or about 20 cents US. Usually much more if you dial directly without using a card.

In China, the charge to call the US and Canada is usually 2.4 yuan/minute if you call on an IP phone. If you're calling from your hotel room the sky's the limit and prepare to be ripped off.

Other countries, e.g. Europe, are more, maybe 3.2 yuan/minute, I forget exactly.

Hong Kong is, of course, cheaper.

Depend on the phone operator in that country you are calling from and also your own phone service provider if you happen to be roaming overseas. Just add up the cost.

if you have internet access, try using the net phone, it is the cheapest. Otherwise, depending on the country you are calling to, from China, the rates can vary from 0.5 RMB per min to 5RMB per min

why don't you and your calling party use skype? quality is not the best but at that price (free), it can't be wrong. I use it everyday to talk to friends and relatives in Canada, the US. Europe and China.

It depends on your plan. It can cost more from a wireless phone than from a landline unless you have a special plan.
