Filipinos are of malay stock. i study south east asia's history in school and this is my expertise.
people of asean mostly they came from malay stock that's why our face and skin complexion looks very much the same. although there're many mixed marriage it didnt only happen in the philippines. in phils they call it mestizo while in other countries they have their own abbreviation. please dont think that malay people in the phillippines is the only malay who practice interacial marriage. there're lotsa others in indonesia (dutch), malaysia (chinese, indian, british, portuguese), brunei, etc.
because of different religious background people may forget that Filipinos are actually Malay because predominantly Malays in ASEAN are muslim while in the Phillippines almost all of them are Catholic.
Language is a little bit different but they derived from the ancient malay language. while indonesians, malaysians, and bruneians can understand each other we find it hard to understand tagalog because it's completely different language BUT there are words that is similar or sounded similar. i dont think there's any problem if people from these countries want to learn tagalog/bahasa melayu/indonesia.
tagalog is partly influenced by spanish language, malay, chinese and local language like kapampangan, waray, cebuano.
spanish = trabajo is trabaho in tagalog
malay = kerbau is carabao in tagalog, mata is same in both language, as of kanan, kambing, anak etc.

That's because Filipinos are of Malayo-Polynesian origin. However, people need to distinguish that Malay Race is different from Ethnic Malays. Malay race is just short term for Austronesians of Indonesia, Philippines, Malaysia, Brunei and Singapore, which includes not only Ethnic Malays but also Filipinos, Javanese, Minangkabau and etc. The "ethnic" Malays are those natives from eastern Sumatra, Malay Peninsula, coastal Borneo, Singapore and southern Thailand. They speak native dialects of Malay. The ancestors of the ethnic Malays also came to Borneo from the Philippine Archipelago so that may explain as to why ethnic Malays and ethnic Filipinos have physical resemblances, while those in western Malaysia contain a mix of Thai, Khmer, Indian, Arab and Chinese descent. The Sultan of Brunei, Hassanal Bolkiah doesn't even look Filipino, he looks like a mix of Indian and Malay. Former Malaysian prime minister Mahathir Mohamad doesn't even look Filipino, the lad has Indian descent.

Physically yes! But I think that Filipinos are way more better, talented, smarter & can perfectly speak english fluently (well, not all!)... Many half Filipinos have accomplish a lot of things in the US or in other countries, like Allan Pineda aka Apl de ap from the Black Eyed Peas, Nicole from the Pussycat Dolls, Mutya from Sugababes, Jasmine Trias & many more... So if I have to live again, between being a Filipino or Malaysian, I will definitely choose Filipino. Cheers!!!

They are of Malay origins, that's why....
"...proto-Malay, and Malay peoples were the principal peoples of the Philippine archipelago."
And yes Filipinos have always known that....
