I'm a college student about to attend a university in Japan for one semester. I've been doing research on these three questions, but I can't seem to find a satisfying answer for any of them.

1. Can I purchase calling cards here (in the US) to use in Japan? Or do I have to purchase calling cards once I get there? Which country will have the best rates to offer? And if I do purchase them here, are they called "International Calling Cards" or something specific?

2. Is opening a bank account difficult? I have to pay rent in cash every month, so is it wise to bring all my money in traveler's checks and then use ALL the traveler's checks to start the account? I want to know the easiest way to manage my money.

3. What's the easiest and/or safest way for my parents to send me money?

I only have a student visa, not a working visa. So because I won't have a job, I will have a set amount of money I'm bringing with me. I'd appreciate any websites or advice that you have. Thanks!

I was watching a television show about meteor impacts, and the announcer said that the famous Siberian impact of 1904 was approximately as strong as 20,000 Hiroshima blasts.

Which leads me to wonder: do the people of Nagasaki ever feel left out? Most things measured by bomb blasts reference Hiroshima. I don't think I've ever heard Nagasaki used. I think that I would feel overlooked if I lived in Nagasaki. I'd be like "Hello? WE GOT BOMBED TOO! A TON OF PEOPLE DIED!" But that's just me.

By the way, I am not intending at all to be mean or to make fun of Japanese people or joke about the horrors of the atomic bomb blasts. I mean this question seriously. Do you think that people from Nagasaki are offended by never being mentioned?

Ok.. Here goes my story..

Last Year I married my fiance in the Philippines. A mayor from her province/town wedd us.

I didn't know that you don't acutally fill out the application for the marriage license. They fill it out for you and just ask you bunch of questions.

Well I'm a filipino by blood, born and raised in the philippines, speak the language also but when we migrated to America 10Yrs ago. I converted to a US citizen.

Dumb girl from the municipal typed in my Nationality as an Filipino, which I'm not..

I just noticed it 3 months ago when I wanted to apply for her petition.

That's sucks!! Well also she just recently gave birth to our 1st child, which I requested to be put in her birth certificate that I'm an American.

Also I didn't know I needed a Legal Capacity to Marry.. Nobody told me about it?

I have inquired about it. They said they could only fix it through the Civil Court. Hire a lawyer.

How true is this? Can anybody HELP me?

my boyfriend and I are looking at going over Xmas, a very busy period for Thailand. So we want to avoid (as much as possible) all the touristy/hectic places where natural beauty and laid back atmosphere have been replaced with money grabbing resorts and restaurants. We dont mind whether its difficult to reach or has basic facilities and no electricity as long as we can spent some relaxing time together away from the Western civilisation and close to the sea. I come from a popular Greek island myself and know how hard it is for a foreign traveller to get to original places, breaking through the tourist facade..
