I don't think there're any MAJOR setbacks for a tourist when they spend their vacations here.
Most Malaysians speak English anyway, making communication easy & a breeze.
Food places like the local mamak (kinda like a coffeeshop but operated by Indian-Muslims) are around the clock and cheap at that.
If shopping is more your "thing", there're plenty of malls to choose from.
Just be aware of your surroundings, be sensitive toward local cultures and you'll be fine.
Finally, as in any other destination you head to for a holiday, watch out for cab drivers!
Though fear not, there're some nice, honest cabbies out there.

Problems tourist are facing when travelling Malaysia could be a lot of illegal taxi drivers try to solicit you to get on their taxi in KL international airport. Don't do it. Always take the legal taxi where you could buy the ticket at the counter. Regarding accomodation, there are cheaper hotels depending where you are going. As for good food, follow the local crowd. You could never go wrong.

Well, you do sound racist and bigotted, Todd. I take it you've never been out of your own little world. Being in a non-Muslim in Malaysia is not a problem at all as long as you are respectful of others...you're treated a lot better than being a muslim here in North America these days. The main problem would probably be the heat and humidity and also beware of some cab drivers who would take you for a ride if you're not careful. Good food and cheap accomodations are not a problem at all, Don. Enjoy your time there. I envy you!

well, high crime rate, but low murder rate.

No prob of finding food, though. You can find food anywhere from the road side to the hotel, n lots of foreign worker wandering around, esp Central market area, they are not Malaysians (duh..i said foreign workers..) but look like one, most probably bcoz of their skin tone.(majority r INdonesians). Yea, sometimes these foreign workers act like jerk in public/tourist attraction areas, they pretend to have a life here in Malaysia, love to disturb Malaysian chics around the town....so annoying....

oh, and the taxi/cab driver, do watch out on them. They conspire to cheat foreign tourists, esp if u are well-dressed. When u are boarding a cab, make sure, u ask the driver to turn on the freaking meter, or else, just leave, and ignore them. Coz they (for god's sake, i don't know why) love to switch off their meter, and name u a price when u ask them to take u to a particular place. Some of them are so clever, they even try to be "friendly" by giving excuse, such as "oh, i charge u more bcoz im a very experience driver, i don't just drive u around, i explain at the same time" explain my foot, If he's soooo experienced, he should become a limousine driver, or private chaffeur and get a life, not cheating ppl's money. however, there are some drivers who are very honest, so, it all depends on your luck

Maybe the crowded people and the third class mentality of Malaysians. For example: their hate to western(from the US) or maybe the condition of places. Some places are clean and some are terrible. But the most interesting part is the FOOD. Tourist can find any kind of food and delicacies in Malaysia. Just name it, babe!!

Snatch thief are the biggest problem in Malaysia, both by locals and tourist alike. Secondly, taxi drivers from KLIA who solicits.

Accomodation in Malaysia, there are some cheap hotels and some backpackers inn in KL. A lot of budget hotels around kl. Transportation wise, there's a lot of buses, taxis and the lrts.

And I'm a Christian living here in Malaysia and there's no incident against Christians here. We have a lot of different churches here and we are free to follow our religion as stated in the constitution without fear of persecution.

all the mentioned hiscap are consider minor n would have happen in any others country, eg. [1] language, most Malaysian speak english if not at least understand whats your intention [2] infection, so long as you visit clean food stall/restuaran then it shouldn't be any problem, mingling with people wouldn't causes any disease to transmit over to you unless you come to very close encounter like kissing [3] taxi, yes, i admit quite a number of those touts present a nuisance/problem to our visitors, you can always bargain with them til you satisfy with the fare/charges, otherwise get/hail another taxi, if at airport then head to the counter to purchase ticket from the licenced taxi [4] hotel, there are so many to choose from, luxury[ 6 stars ], standard n backpacked type all depend on individual budget [5] food, sumptous n cheap variety [ malay, chinese, indian, western, fast food, local dishes etc ] are just everwhere, most of the foodstall or restaurant at major town open their business til midnight, some just round the clock ! [6] attitude, we are just a bit reserved or may be shy toward stranger/visitor but deep down our heart never intended to be rude, may be just some misunderstanding, misjudgement, misinterpretation, misquote due to language barrier[7] demonstration, our government has been able to controlled n contained any such activities [ not 100% but at least 95% ], only allowed peaceful n non-violent demonstration to show our stand on global issue mainly regards to humanity/agaisnt war/world peace etc etc ! i am sure you have been to others country as well, so come over here for your holiday then make you own judgment, pretty sure you would love visiting Malaysia again !

not much really.

language wise, most of the malaysians know how to speak english. ok only mayb the road signs may be a problem coz they are all in MALAY!

another thing is most taxi drivers there tend to cheat u out of ur money. they will name a price when u say a destination of ur choice. it's hard to find a taxi which runs on the meter charge over there.

beware of PICKPOCKETS when u r in crowded area like shopping malls. i had an experience once where my sling back was slung to my back. when i got back to my hotel, i discovered the front of my bag was slit open with a pen knife. i was lucky none of my valuables r in that pocket of my bag.

good luck.

Malaysia like numerous different worldwide places needless to say mentioned that prostitution is unlawful decrease than its constitutional regulation. although, you cant in simple terms make it bypass away. Malaysia has rules yet confusing to enforce through fact those activities are 'underground' and illicit at the beginning. no count how frequently the police raid the section, it is going to save coming back. law enforcement officials in Malaysia are not one hundred % perfect yet you cant in simple terms disqualify and demonize them completely in simple terms through fact one or 2 undesirable apples. tell me which u . s . a . in this 21th century is optimal in that experience?
