I'm 14 and on a summer swim team. I have a meet soon and I'm going to be swimming 50 meter freestyle 50 meter breast stroke, and a 100 meter IM. I need help with the IM or all the strokes really.I need to know what I can do so that I don't get so tired and I can become quicker so that I come in first or close to first. I'm okay I just would like to be better. My time for freestyle is like 42 seconds and my time for breast stroke is like 1 minute. I don't however have a time for an IM yet this year.

I am 6'4" and weigh about 12 stone. I dont know excatly what my body fat percentage is but it is low like 13% or something. So although I am slim and 'submarine shaped' I cant do front crawl because I sink - that is i dont have the bouyancy to stay above the water. Even if i do breaststroke I have to go flat out to stay up.

Sometimes I see big women who have a lot of body fat, they seem to be able to swim much better than me. Although they are 'battleship shaped' and have a lot of drag they have so much bouyancy it is easier for them to swim.

the question is, is it easier for them to swim or am i just really unfit?

p.s. why do you not see any black professional swimmers? is it because they have much less body fat?

Its the only muscle that does this. I drink alot of OJ and other juices and drink more the enough water. I even stretch. What gives? I only swim freestyle and I do this in the ocean.

Help, one of my RES loves to burrow itself in the cracks of the rocks I have in the water and I know it's not stuck because I've seen it get out, but now it looks like it's asleep and it's face down in the water. Will it drown? I thought RES needed air from time to time as they are only semi-aquatic....help!

Would love to hear from participants. My son is 9 years old and at the pre competitive level for swimming. He does know all the competive strokes but is still working on the starts and turns. He thinks he will enjoy it but I am wondering if this is too much for him. Maybe we should wait a year and send him when he is a more advanced swimmer?
thanks

I just joined the swim team about a month ago. I am a pretty good swimmer, the only thing is that after 1 lap I get a shortness of breathe and can't swim as well. Is there anything I can do to help my breathing? Oh, and this mostly happens in free, not as much fly or breast stroke.
