A friend and I want to go surfing in the next few days. This would be our first time surfing (my friend can skateboard and I can skateboad+snowboard). Now two days ago I went with another friend to the beach to chill and go swimming. My friend and I went a little deep and when we wanted to swim back in he struggled, kept getting pulled out further, swallowing water. Luckily a surfer was there to offer him a board to hold. I am a very good swimmer so I just swam back in easily. Now this friend knows how to tread water and is more fit (though im lil less fit and i can swim better) than the friend im going surfing with. I am concerned about my friend that is going swimming with me because I've known him for a long time since 4th grade and he does not swim very well at all. I know he has a board but he really is not that good at swimming. Are there any tips you can give me to help him out if he starts having trouble? Thanks.

Swimming suit season is here and I'm curious as to what people prefer to see and or wear, a conservative one piece or a bikini? Please don't answer unless you're at least 21.

I've heard from several sources that in American schools and one French school, it was normal practice to have swim classes nude, and in a couple of cases in Minneapolis, the classes were actually co-ed, with the girls in swimsuits but the boys without. This seems unusual to me, so I am wondering if anyone can confirm this, tell me what it was like, and maybe explain what the background reason for this was? Thanks!

I feel that it's offending that people call Amanda Beard a Playboy model first, and THEN they call her a swimmer. She's a swimmer first. What do you all think about it?

I lifeguard and teach swimming lessons at the college I attend and they charge $65 for public lessons with a max. class of 8 kids.

Well, I'm really good at what I do and the parents ask me about private lessons and I'm not sure how much to charge.

The natatorium charges $75 for 3-30 minute sessions and I would only get paid $30 ($10/session) and I think that price is outlandish. I've told a few parents I would charge $75 for 8-30 minute sessions.

Is that appropriate and if not...what price is?

Oh, and I'm a certified lifeguard and Water Safety Instructor, so, I'm certified to do all of this.

Thanks!

I'm deciding whether or not to put my daughter in private or group swim lessons. We've done group lessons before and were not happy because the other children were unruly and the teacher could not handle them and the parents (though they were sitting right there!) did not discipline their children. We're fairly tight with money so I went to city classes and now we're considering going through a local country club instead. They are reputed for having an excellent swim school and for giving great lessons, both group and private. Though both are much more costly than lessons through the city, we just can't do that kind of atmosphere again. Friends of mine have done the group lessons and say that their teachers know how to deal with kids, but I'm just not sure about doing the group thing again. I also really cannot afford it, but I really want my child to be water safe. Do any of you feel strongly that private lessons will offer better instruction or will group lessons be fine?

I'm looking for a place where I can get in a pool, have a video of myself made (like you see when they analyze swimmers' form in televised competitions), have a coach analyze my form, and then spend 30 minutes or so in the pool with the coach helping me with my form. I don't want to attend a longer swim camp. And I'm not a competitive swimmer; I just do laps for exercise. My target area is around Chicago, but I'm flexible about combining such a lesson with a vacation to another part of the country.
