actually if you are being a "good" lifeguard...
a) you wouldn't let the non-swimmer off the diving board in the first place.
b) if the non-swimmer did manage to will himself off the board, your first course of action would be to reach or throw something to your victim.
c) last resort would be to enter the water, in which case, no, your "comfort" is inconsequential. you "go" however you are.

Red Cross still teaches "Reach, Throw, Go" and for the last 10 years or so, you "Go" with a flotation device strapped to you. no self respecting lifeguard would go to work with goggles.

lifeguards don't wear goggles.

I took all my lifeguard classes with my contacts in and didn't lose them when I went under water for the rescues. Even if I did, at least a life would be saved.

I've never met a lifeguard that wore goggles on duty.

you would not wait and put on goggles
there is no way to tell if those two seconds that you took to put your goggles on made the difference between life or death for that drowning victim.

No goggles. People would get pissed if they saw you hesitate at all to make a save.
