I am buying my boyfriend a fly rod and reel for christmas..it is for catching tarpon. I don't know what type of retrieve to get him..left hand or right hand? He is right handed, but I don't know how it works with fishing.

I just put new string on my reel and it unreels its self when hteres no tension. How long will it take to be able to fish with it without it unreeling? Also its a 40lb test line if that has anything to do with it.

Can anyone give me tips that work for catching catfish. Preferably big blues. I just got into the hobby over last summer.

My son (14 yrs old), is a self taught fisherman and is actually pretty impressive with his knowledge. He has collected/traded many fishing poles trying to get the right one. Over the summer, he had finally got his dream pole. (it cost about $350.00) I think he would have slept with it at night if he could.

We were at the Pier, it was at night and obviously dark. He had two poles and needless to say, his dream pole got stolen.

I wanted to get him a new one although I don't plan to spend that much. (He has a 6 year old brother and he needs a "gift from Santa" for Christmas Morning.)

Inexpensive reels may not be your forte', but what would you suggest to get or look for in a pole that cost around. $75.00?
(Give or take a bit) We live in Florida, so he fishes in both fresh and saltwater.

I am a single Mom and know very little on fishing. I'm hoping one of you serious fisherman can give me some direction. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance,
Nellie

I am writing a paper about a fishing trip, but know nothing about fishing. In this trip, a trio rents a fishing boat on Zanzibar, Tanzania. Think third world country. What type of boat would they have rented?

My boyfriend is really into his fishing and wants a larger fishing rod. I think he wants a general purpose one to do everything his 6ft rod can't do as well. I've gotten him a 9ft Shimano rod, 20lb line and bought a Shimano 4500 reel but not sure if I need to change the reel for a larger one? Think he'd like to try for larger fish (e.g. jewfish / mulloway) and maybe also use it for surf fishing... Any suggestions for an alternate reel or is the one I have adequate? Many thanks!!

After buying fishing line, does it stay curled after you remove it off the spool thing?
Is it easy to straighten it?
How can it be done?
