He wasn't expected to perform this well for any team. The Red Wings drafted him in the 7th round and he is 1st pick overall material. The players surrounding him atop the league leading points list are high first round draft picks. Lecavelier, Crosby, Thornton, Sundin. Should he win MVP at least once in his career because of what a great player he turned out to be?

I know the Leafs don't retire numbers, they "honour" them. Whatever. You understand what I'm trying to say.

I have been saying the Red Wings for a few days, and I am getting sick of being unlucky. I will make sure I break my jinx tonight by saying that the Red Wings are going to win the Stanley Cup. Sorry, Kimmy, but the Panthers don't stand a change in Detroit's house tonight. Detroit is going all the way!!!!

Who was the GM for the Red Wings in the 5o's?

Who will be the first Red Wing to score a goal tonight?

Every goal he scores, whether up by 5 goal, tied or, down by 5 goals, he celebrates like he just scored in Game 7, triple overtime of the Stanley cup Finals. If I was his coach I would tell him to quit embarassing himself and his teammates. I think it shows that he cares more about his own stats than winning. That may not be the case but it sure looks that way. I guess I'm just spoiled being a Red Wing fan because the most a player like Henrik Zetterberg celebrates is maybe raising one arm in the air and telling his teammates nice pass or something. Basically he acts like he has scored before and will many more times.

But how many years will it take for Martin Gaborik to become a "has been" so some fan for some team won't be asking obnoxious questions ad nauseum about how great he is?

Me? I'd say MG is on his 13th minute of fame.

I was hoping for Andy Mc to get traded because this Ducks' team is NOT the Stanley Cup team of last year. Mc looked totally lost and there was no one to pass the puck on fast breaks. I hope he has great luck with Kariya now in St.L.

As for the Ducks, their record this year is atrocious. Like I said when BB signed Butt last June, he's trying to turn this team into the Biggest Goon Squad ever!!! Getz and Paris truly have great potential, but who else??? Anybody?? With the Ducks "supossedly" so "solid" on defense, why then is Giggy having such a hard time in goal??? I believe Scottie will make a bit of difference, but Selanne, LOVE THAT GUY!! (Btw, Teemu, please, please, please do NOT come back. You do NOT belong on "this" team anymore. Retire with dignity and respect!!

I still am a Ducks fan, but instead of the empty bottles of beer left over from a game, my floor is littered with Pepto Bismol, Rolaids, Immodium and Alka Seltzer wrappers.

Well, I am heading off the P.E.I shortly for my wife's XMas party. Thought it would be nice to ask the question on how in God's name Mario saved hockey in Pittsburgh before I hit the highway.
People say he was drafted by them and put butts in the seats, he bought the team, he kept the team there etc........and I say BS.
People seem to forget when the Penguins called his name as the first overall draft pick, he did not shake general manager Eddie Johnston's hand or don the Penguins jersey, as is NHL tradition. He claimed he was upset about the contract negotiation, and said that "Pittsburgh doesn't want him bad enough." Lemieux's actions upset many fans and led to accusations of arrogance. Yeah, the great guy that saved the day.
Then he stepped in and "saved" the Pens from bankruptcy. Well, they owed him so much money in deferred salary that it was ipso facto his way of recovering what they owed. Kind of like when you owe the mob money and can't pay so they take your store.

In most sports there are 4 quarters, or 2 halfs of playing time with a short break inbetween. Why is it in hocky there is an odd number of periods of playing time (3) and not an even number?

Give me one reason why the Wild will not win the Cup?

Mind you most of them were about the time that they were 7-0-1. How the mighty have come back to earth. Gaborik leads the team with only 10 goals.

Others I miss are-

Will Cammeleri win the Rocket or will it be Comrie or Antropov?
Will Zetterberg win the Art Ross and Hart?
Brian Campbell for the Norris?
Is Brodeur washed up?

The leafs have gone through ups and downs through the last couple seasons, but they don't seem to be getting anywhere. Who do you think the leafs should trade/fire?

Personally I can think of a few easy ones:
1)Ferguson; He has done very little good for the team. And he's done countless bad trades. Ex: Lindros, Allison, Raycroft, Francis, etc
2)McCabe; he can score....but thats not his job. He's terrible at defence, just look at his +/-
3)Gill; he's being paid a huge amount and is doing nothing to show for it

Today somebody joined our section
He asked 4 question
The first question asked if he should play Junior

The second asked if he should play junior because he had been playing since he was 6

The thirdquestion dealt with making it to the NHL from the ECHL
- he had a tryout, but hadn't heard back
- I answered this question politely by informing him that no player who has made the ECHL as a walk-on has ever made the NHL (and they haven't)

The fourth question asked how much do ECHLers get paid
- I answered this question by telling he's full of %$@% (and explainig why I thought so)

If you've never played Junior or College, you'll probably not make the ECHL as a walk-on.

However, after calling Derek Wilkinson (Charlotte Checkers GM and Coach) he claimed no knowledge of giving any walk-ons a tryout.

Suddenly, all his questions are gone.......

Was I wrong to be so blunt?

Anyway, nothing too exciting ever happens when I go to games. For God's sake, I've only witnessed one NHL fight live!

I guess my thing was from a Pens/Devils game this season, when a girl in a sparkly hat got clocked with a promotional mouse pad that was thrown short (it was meant to land on the ice, in protest of the calls the refs were making). Oh relax, it was only a mousepad; she was fine. Lol.

Stories, anyone?

OK, I'll put it out there:
I am a Kovalev supporter and someone very happy to see him having a good year. When he is on, he is supreme. Plus, I recently watched a TSN clip which put him (personally) in a different light than most believe he is.
Anyone else out there want to share their take on him?

I'm watching Carolina/Calgary on Centre Ice - Rogers Sportsnet Feed -

Erik Cole trips Eric Nystrom - and a penalty is called (and this was an obvious penalty - the three blind mice could have seen it).

The announcers basically patted themselves on the back because the referee called a penalty.

Are they always this bad?
