Today somebody joined our section
He asked 4 question
The first question asked if he should play Junior
The second asked if he should play junior because he had been playing since he was 6
The thirdquestion dealt with making it to the NHL from the ECHL
- he had a tryout, but hadn't heard back
- I answered this question politely by informing him that no player who has made the ECHL as a walk-on has ever made the NHL (and they haven't)
The fourth question asked how much do ECHLers get paid
- I answered this question by telling he's full of %$@% (and explainig why I thought so)
If you've never played Junior or College, you'll probably not make the ECHL as a walk-on.
However, after calling Derek Wilkinson (Charlotte Checkers GM and Coach) he claimed no knowledge of giving any walk-ons a tryout.
Suddenly, all his questions are gone.......
Was I wrong to be so blunt?

- tons of people have played high school, junior, and college hockey and not gone anywhere.
But to ask if you should 'play junior or college'
And then 3 hours later claim to have tried out with an ECHL team but haven't heard back (20+ games into the season).
That's just wrong!

Oh LITY, it's not your fault that the boy will need hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of therapy for the rest of his miserable life. You weren't wrong at all. He needed a good kick in the knackers to get him rolling.
And we're all much more tactless and insensitive when we call people out (except Erica - she's gracious). Take Bob for example. When he delivers a spontaneous low blow (or a righteous earful), he has no remorse. The man's a rock.
A jackass... but a rock.

You gotta call em as you see em. I'll share a story in reverse. Before I got my son into hockey, I skated him for two years to lay the foundation and make sure he was a strong skater before playing. He started as a 6 year old mite, a coach took a real liking to him and had him skating with the squirts (9-10 yr olds). One night after a rough practice with the squirts, this coach took him aside and told him that .001 percent of American kids IF THAT who play, make it to the NHL. He then told my son that he very well could be part of that miniscule population. What happens next?? My son gets this REAL BIG head and starts slacking in practice thinking my god given talent will carry me.I know all the coach was trying to do is pick him up but that was gospel to my kid. So I become bad cop telling him he's gotta step up yadda yadda and good cop is remembered by what he said.
Now he's a Pee Wee and an above average player... but it makes me wonder what would have happened if he didn't get what I call Las Vegas delusion..he'd probably be a much better player because he would have worked harder to keep his place on the team. I guess my point is with kids it's important to be an optiomistic realist. I think it was a good thing to say what you did but also to allow for that chance with hard work, dedication and a little luck it can be done. After all there are and have been players in the NHL from Oklahoma, Florida, California and Utah for god sakes.

LMAO - saw those questions and thought this person writes like he's about 12 or 13 and has failed most of his english courses.
Now after seeing the rest of this I wonder if it's JUDE personality number 28.
Reminds me of a guy I met when I went back to school to get more computer training about 10 or so years ago. He claimed he was the backup goalie for the Brantford Smoke. I looked at him and chuckled. He was 270 lbs and walked with a slight limp he said was an old hip injury. I never said anything more until a few weeks later when I hear him make the same claim to some girls he's chatting up. Later with the help of another guy we asked him about the Smoke and how things were going and he said great. We asked if he was still the backup or was he getting starts. No still the backup he said. Then we hit him with well we're going to the game this Friday so we'll see you there, we'll come down by the glass for warmups. He goes a little pale and disappears quickly. And I mean disappears. He never came back to class. Quit school and we never saw him again.
All kinds I tell ya.

Nah. Some people ask for it and deserve it. I have heard the riot act many times and it made me grow up even more. I don't like wasting time or having my time wasted so I have two rules when I am part of an administrative hierarchy:
1) Give it (good or bad news) to me straight and serve it cold and I'll walk through walls for you.
2) Candy coat it and give it to me in dribs and drabs and I'll want to choke the life out of ya.
Dag, I might be a little jealous of Bob being called a bad seed. I must be getting soft in my old age, or my mojo is wearing off. There was a time when I could turn anyone off with one comment. Maybe it's a good thing.

Much more of a dream crusher than a "bad seed" I would say. haha
Who cares, if you are going to get on here and lie about who you are or what you have done, than I feel you should be exposed.
I played on Ferris State's club team and then played ACHA Division II club in Pennsylvania after I transfered and guess what? I sucked! but I had a good time. lol.
Honesty is the best policy, I say call them out.

I don't think so. If the guy is lieing and you know it then you should call him out. I don't know why people make up stories like that.
I've met idiots at pick up games making up a bunch of non sense about where they have played when it is obvious they are lieing. It would be funny to see someone that can prove they are full of crap call them out in person.

Am I a bad seed? I called out DMoney for spouting drivel all day yesterday, not to be mean, just stating the obvious. He then went and deleted every question and answer from the whole day.
Same guy maybe? We are both bad seeds I guess. I don't know, I just speak my mind. If someone doesn't like it......well, tough titty said the kitty.
As long as you don't drive them to suicide. I think he'll survive.
