I got 2 questions about VS.

Any clue on how much they pay the organizations, do all organizations get payed the same?

What teams play on VS the most, and who determines the teams?

LITY- So versus claims there making a profit off the NHL, and ESPN claims to have lost money, and for some reason they prefer to show the rock, paper, scissors, competition and make money off that? So either ESPN is being ran by a bunch of children who cant organize the money or more viewers tune into hockey now that its being shown on Versus.

Vs pays the NHL an overage AFTER they make a profit.

The current deal provided no up-front money to the NHL. Vs decides the games after talking to their primary sponsors, the NHL has no initial say in what games are shown.

After the sponsors decide which match-ups they want to see, arrangements are made with the NHL. Once the match-ups are finalized, the sponsors pay m

oney based on Viewership.

Once Vs makes back their costs and their sponsors costs, the NHL is then paid.

The last 4 deals that the NHL had with ESPN (Ziegler, Ziegler), Fox (Bettman) and ESPN (Ziegler) had a fixed fee up-front, and the NHL was responsible for recouping 50% of any losses incurred by the networks. As a result, the NHL lost money on all four deals.

The Vs deal is the first deal since the 1972 NBC deal where they have made money.

THis is indeed one of the hokiest deals I've seen..............but where Vs claims they are making money, ESPN said they couldn't. I find that interesting as well.

Versus determines the teams, usually U.S. based teams. Because of very high ratings in Buffalo and Pittsburgh, the Sabres and Penguins are shown the most. The Rangers, Bruins, Flyers, and Red Wings also get frequent showings. Viewership is up 24% so far this season.

I don't know about the first question. However, versus needs a map of North America because they clealy do not know there is a west coast. They only show western conference teams when they are playing on the east coast which is just bull crap. Until they get a clue and find the west coast I refuse to watch them.

I'm pretty sure Detroit and Buffalo play the most games on VS and potentially NBC. I would guess because Buffalo provides the highest television ratings in the US, and pretty sure Detroit is up there as well
