Anaheim
- they get Scott Niedermayer, Doug Weight, and $900,000
St. Louis
- get's Andy McDonald and loses $900,000.00
I think Anaheim wins the deal
Vinny,
- without the deal, they don't have Niedermayer. As for age.....People do realize that Andy McDonald is past his 30th birthday don't they? He's not a young kid. He's a speedy centre who skates well in clear ice, but not in traffic. he's not a very adept puckhandler, and Selanne turned him into an 80 point scorer from his previous high of 30.
So, by making the deal, Anaheim gets
- Scott Niedermayer
- Doug Weight
- $900,000
- 7th round draft pick
- Michal Birner
St. Louis gets
- 30 yr old Andy McDonald
- a loss of $900,000
Anaheim got the better end of this deal.
Seriously, I don't think Weight needs to fit into the system any better than McDonald did, and this year, that wasn't a fit at all.
So far, Doug Risebrough has already accused St. Louis of rolling over and helping Anaheim. So, at least 2 GM's feel that Anahgeim got the better deal.

St.Louis did, they only spend an extra 900,000 for a kid who not only gives them speed, but also a huge help out to a team who has been struggling offensively.
LITY- Anaheim have always had Neidermayer, I understand that they had to free up some cap to acquire Niedermayer but the Blues can care less with what Anaheim does with there money the way they see was "we got rid of old Doug Weight for a young Andy MacDonald". Thats why I think Blues got the better trade.
LITY- Ya i understand that Anaheim did all this to get Scott Neidermayer but St.Loius didnt really give up much to get Andy MacDonald. What Im trying to say is that St.Loius got the most out of a retiring Doug Weight. Where is Doug Weight going to fit in the Anaheim system.
LITY- I agree that St.Louis put Anaheim back into playoff talk, but I think Doug Weight and Andy MacDonalds game are completely different. To be honest I dont think Doug Weight can give you anything offensively or defensively. Hes slow to get back and does not have much of a threating shot. But like you said, over all this deal was to get Scott back. But im not liking Anaheim's speed or chances this year. But i always do get proved wrong.

I've been listening to WFAN out of New York and they've talked to about 8-10 GMs this evening and several players and so far every single one of them think Anaheim has made out like a bandit.
I'm going with the guys paid to make the decision and say Anaheim. After reading LITY's analysis, I wonder why he's not a GM

St. Louis did. this was a pure salary dump by Anaheim to free up cap space for Niedermayer and next year. Weight is in his last year of his contract, and I don't expect the Ducks to re-sign him. StL gets a nice player with a ring to his name for not much.

Anaheim. Weight is joining a team that's already full of veteran talent. Not olny that, it allows Niedermayer to rejoin the team & gives Anaheim the possibility of re-singing Corey Perry

Anaheim - they dump salary so they can sign the restricted free agents next year to big contracts and get Doug Weight for the rest of the season.

The Blues the get the youth movement they have been talking about!
Weigh may help the conceded Ducks come back to Earth
McDonald is good player and will find a younger Selanne types on the Blues.

I think both. The Ducks needed to unload some cap space for Neidermeyer, and the Blues needed a solid, younger centre. It's one of those symbiosis trades.

I agree with LITY and will add that they also hang onto Schneider and may perhaps add Teemu.
