It is in the laws of the game, that if the defending team commits a foul punishable by an indirect free kick in their own penalty box (such as the goalkeeper handling the ball in the penalty area kicked to him by his own teammates), the other team gets an indirect free kick wherever the foul was committed, not a penalty kick. You only get a penalty kick if the defending team commits a foul punishable by a direct free kick. Its very unusual and I saw a video clip of Gabriel Batistuta taking one in the penalty area of the defending team. Has anybody else witnessed something like that? Has it happened recently? Not to my knowledge.
