A fairly good player. But LA supporters shouldn't expect him to create miracles. He is not a Pele, not a Maradona.

Just a good winger.

Four of the first 5 answers above are by people who have never answered in the soccer section (i.e. very good chance that they don't know what they are talking about).

Beckham may be slightly past his prime but he's still a great player. He recently helped Madrid win the Spanish league and England in the Euro qualifiers. He's definitely a legitimate superstar.

He can help LA make the playoffs. They are 8 points behind the last spot but have 2 games in hand. The recent signing of Carlos Pavon will also help.

David Beckham is a great player with a history behind him, i mean not just anyone can captain the england national team for as long as he did. He alone helped the greatest club in the history of soccer Real Madrid win the league title after the team hadent won anything in four years, plus his signature free kicks and crosses into the box and compared with no ones. He is in a category of his own when it comes to that. BECKHAM is the man....plus his wife is unbelievably HOTT ;)

The goal of having Beckham here is not to make it to the playoffs (although that would be a nice bonus). The goal is to bring more attention to the game here in the states. Beckham is this sports most recognizable name. By bringing him here to the states, they hope they will sell more tickets to a game that is not as apprciated here in the states as it is in the rest of the world. They did the same thing with Pele in the 70's and although there was some initial hype, it never caught on as some would hope.

I'm sure you have heard the saying: you can't win a season in the first ten games, but you can lose it. Beckham can produce a cross and a free kick, but let's get real, he is not the best. I heavily doubt the galalxy will make the playoffs this year!

i think David beckham is a superstar. I think he will help L.A. Galaxy, but they can't rely on beckham to win it for them, soccer is a team sport.

legitimate superstar. dropped from the england side, and then turned his entire game around, regained his madrid place even tho capello said he wouldn't play again. Regained his England place,. You've got to be good to be able to do that. Lets just wait and see what he does in the US
